I was having a go at taking out the FLH drive shaft today. Dismantled everything okay, drained g'box in prep' for removing the drive shaft. Do you think I could get the hub to swivel off and clear the splined shaft - no way. Hit it repeatedly with an aluminium faced hammer, no joy. Borrowed a two jawed bearing puller, wound it up pretty tight still no joy. So I gave up resigning myself to drive it down to the mechanic. BUT - when it came time to reattach the disc rotor - oh sh-t! I'v manage to bend the drive flange :( So p'd of with myself - now trawling around to find a replacement drive flange.

Any advice on how to free a seized drive flange would be welcome as I've still to get the original one off!

Did you get the 2 bolts holding the hub to the strut out OK?

Did the hub then pull back clear of the strut?

I've not done the left hand drive shaft, but the right hand one then comes clear of the IRD OK - so can then be extracted from the wheel. Maybe the left hand one needs to be removed from gearbox before the wheel.

I'm not sure what the drive flange is

Did the hub then pull back clear of the strut? Absolutely

I'm wondering if the part can be straightened in a 20 tonne press?

I think Cashels will be your friend.
Trouble is with the s/h suppliers here is the parts cost more than new parts from the UK and then there is gst & freight on the NZ stuff too! Delivery time can be about the same as well.

e.g. drive flange = £30 + £40 freight = $140ish [ and maybe gst once here [$21 - I've only been charged for that once] = $162ish

Here: $125 [+gst $18.75] to $168 [+gst $25.20] + freight $10? > $145 to $193

Are you just changing the drive shaft? Have you been trying to remove the drive flange? If so there's no need to remove the flange from the hub carrier. Once the 32 mm drive shaft nut is removed, the shaft will slide out from the hub.
You will need a press to replace the drive flange and a new wheel bearing on reasonably too.

Removing both sides is identical. The drive flange is what the wheel bolts to. There's no need to remove it to change the drive shaft. A press is required to remove the flange from the hub bearing.
