Driving an axle with no diff or shafts?

Hey guys i have a 94 300 disco is it possible to drive with the rear diff out and the drive shafts or is this impossible as i think, i only mean to drive it to a garage and not use it like this everyday

Not sure if the diff is knackered but might be better to leave it in there as it would stop ****e getting thrown in from the road.

Drive shafts? Would that be prop or half shafts, no half shafts means the wheels aren't fitted.
Just remove the rear prop and drive in diff lock, if the diff is iffy then any damage is already done I would think.

Im just about to rebuild an axle as mine is very leaky and rotten so i was rebuilding this and was going to use my existing diff and put it in the new axle, i cannot particularlly fit this has i dont have the equipment here so was gunna build axle then take it to the garage but seems i will have to buy another diff

Discool tut tut tut of course you can remove shafts and still have wheels fitted

As above the only problem will be potential muck in axle case

Just pull the shafts and drop the prop off, then the there will be no damage to the diff, if it is just leaky then shafts out and prop off will stop a non lubed diff from spinning and causing any damage, if I am honest I ran for about 6 months over the summer just like that 😌

Diffs not knackered just want to put it in a new casing as current one had more holes and leaks than a brothel so just need to get it to the garage

If your old axle casing is knackered then just pull shafts and prop off then diff out and drive on, muck in a scrap casing won't be a problem.

Just be sure to put the transfer case diff lock in before you try to drive off

snigger...... take some old axles machine the shaft and save the end and use as a blank flange

Thor,he is only taking it to the garage,so no need to go to those extremes,just have to clean the casing out when he gets it back home.

Hi

All you have to do is cover the holes with Duck Tape to keep the muck out.

It will be OK for a short trip but will not last forever because of the affects of oil/grease.

if removing the rear prop and driving,remember to put the nuts back on to the drum(handbrake)they fly off at a very fast speed lol.
