Disco td5 - ran out fuel - wont start

Well after all that it turned out to be the fuel pump was up the shoot. It had been (unconsciously) discounted as we were convinced it had run out of fuel, and when fuel was added it made a difference. Also, when turning over it was smoking and attempting to start. ALSO, the fuel pump was changed about 9 months ago....
So moral of the story is always go back to basics eh! Take nothing for granted - especially aftermarket fuel pumps.
Thanks to those responding and to Auto22 - the garage it had ended up at after recovery - and Mark there for his persistence, even after my insisting it had run out of diesel.
