Hi are there technical mechanical differnces between these engines -
looking at the way the power and emissions it looks like larger injectors and a remap have been done.

On a web site .... a forum member claimed if you look at all the part numbers they are all identical (this person was located in Russia) ..... can anybody verify this. His claim was all the engines are identical and that software is responsible.

However if you go onto Superchips Bluefin web site TD4 can make around 190 bhp and SD4 around 215bhp .......... leading me to think there are diffences ..... ie injectors.

Hope somebody can shed some light on this.....

In standard form is it not just a remap between the two engi es? The mods above sound like a bit more than that.

SD4 from 2010 I think is/was different to TD4 I say was cos the tech for the 2013/14 TD4 is the same as SD4

We specifically wanted the SD4 for three reasons

1, All SD4 are Auto and we wanted an auto
2, We specifically wanted a 2010 vehicle (for cost mostly)
3, The SD4 2010 puts out higher BHP than TD4 2010

So there is a difference

Just no idea what :p :D

It's the same engine so that cuts down the number of possible differences. It's likely to be Mapping, fuel delivery rates and boost pressure. What changes have been made to achieve these will need further investigation. If it's anything like Fords i've seen, the ECU will be mapped differently. It could have a larger turbo and larger intercooler and higher rate injectors. It could also have additional cooling in the way of oil coolers and larger rad. The list of differences could be extensive.

I would expect there to be differences between the TD4 & SD4, if LR are anything like VW Group.

VAG do a CR110 tdi, a CR140 tdi & CR170 tdi in the Skoda Yeti as an example.

The 110 & 140 are identical, just mapped differently, so both can be remapped to around 175bhp, (but the CR110 has smaller brakes....)

The CR170 however can be remapped to around 210bhp. It has quite a few different parts, turbos, injectors etc.

So, if the guys who do the remapping state that the TD4 can't go as high as the SD4, then there WILL be physical differences like turbos etc that are different.

I think the sd4 has a different turbo and remapped ecu, its the same engine in focus /mondeo and that produces about 170 bhp, also later td4 are only 150hp, whereas early td4 were 160.

The same engine in every single mechanical and physical way except the badge. This is what documentation seems to show at least, I cant find any difference in parts used at all.

The difference is the engine calibration table inside the PCM.

i had the older FL2 TD4 and had it remapped and the remap took it to190 BHP just like the SD4 is so i,m thinking its just a remap.Maybe thats why they only did them in auto as the manual TD4 didn,t take to the remap too well

i think its a different Turbo and a bigger intercooler.I.m also told the SD4 cant be remapped through the obd port you have take the ECU out
