Remember these were not cheap motors when new, so they were designed for money to be thrown at them when they break by their rich owners ! lol

I thought that was the point i made in my post. If you can't do it yourself and you can't afford the garage fees, they may not be the car for you. But many crave the status and bastardise them to save money. Hence trying to run a Range rover at Clio prices. It's not going to happen. :)

Bloody hell I don't know which way to turn. I already to the OP that I won't speak to him for putting it on coils, I used to drive fire engines for Cheshire County FB, and I own a Clio, Spanish reg and lives in the Canaries. Yes Keith there are some bad drivers out there, my first turnout was to standby at Chester City Station ( that shows my age) and the driver nearly turned it over on a roundabout on the A41. Showing off to the newby.

well at least we all getting a chuckle out of it , the thing is just old , every bloody part of the air was worn out and tbh springs were the cheapest way out and being sure of a cure , new air compressor new leg new ride sensors where was it going to stop and it just did no more air worries it hasnt got air anymore .

there comes a point when a vheicle becomes a write off and a truck worth 6000 is only worth spending 50% on repairs , the spring aption was attractive and has worked .

to be honest having done one and the result i would buy one with knackered air and do it again .

my mate has had several p38 and the only reason he hadnt moved up to a L322 was the air hes now buying one

If the air suspension was neglected then i would suspect the rest of the car is the same tbh.
Depends what you want out of a RR at the end of the day, to pose around in regardless of the driving quality or to respect the RR for what it is (a fantastic 4x4 to drive that comes at a hefty price).

Impalling cars on the front of the appliance when jumping red lights, rolling them on roundabouts, tipping them over with the ladder:eek:
T'was fun as a lad riding when they were going forward to cover, 80mph on the Southend Road ringing the bells, that shows my age. No sirens or blue lights.

Nowt wrong with air. If it doesn't work it's down to bad maintenance and that will apply to the rest of the car.

God you are an old barsteward, bet you had the job of feeding the horses after the job :D:D:D

Lots of horses, Dennis appliances with Rolls Royce 6 or 8 cylinder petrol engines, went like stink if the governor was removed:):):)

Dennis fire engines. I remember the one at Samlesbury breaking down on the apron when off to stand at the end of the runway for a royal flight arrival. They towed it to the end of the runway with an aircraft tugger. Lizzie a Phil the Greek were non the wiser.

What motors. we had a 6 cylinder Water Tender and an 8 cylinder Water Escape and that could move. Ah happy days but little money. £21 for a 56 hr week take home to a wife and kid. The sh*thouse cleaner in Vauxhalls was on £48 for 40 hrs. The only danger he was in was slipping on an escaping turd.:D:D

what did i buy a range rover for ?
well simple its a bloody good tow truck . add that to my ivor williams tilt bed 3500kg recovery trailer and what a good combo , plus it will tow the caravan . and get me about if it snows due to the fact that i live at 1000 feet above sea level .

if i want to pose i would use one of the other cars .

having done about 50 miles in it this morning i cant see any real difference in the ride

i have tested it today at higher speeds and its better than on air whilst it is defiantly stiffer .

You can't have it both ways! If it's stiff enough to corner better than the EAS equipped car which actively checks lean, it cannot possibly ride anywhere nearly as nicely. Some people are just not very sensitive to suspension set-up - even racers! If it rides as well (meaning comparable spring rates) then it must be leaning more on coils - you cannot defeat physics!

In the P38 the self levelling nature of the EAS system keep the headlamp aim in check.

On the L322, the EAS system tells the Headlamp ECUs the orientation of the vehicle in order to maintain correct aim. Whilst the self levelling nature of the EAS in the L322 will act much like the P38s, it has additional headlamp aim through the lamp assembly itself.....you may notice them doing a little dance when you first turn the headlamps on...this is the levelling systems self check.

EDIT: details attached.....also, not sure what effect the EAS ECU bypass fitted has on the levelling signal to the headlamps!
