I swear by the old Halfords Professional range, the quality and strength are up there with the rather expensive sockets I used to use (Snap On and Falcon) which always ended up getting nicked. No-one bothers nicking something with "Halfords" stamped on it and I've never managed to break one.

I got the -118 peice set love it and they have actuly made proper hinges on the case now :)

I think only the professional sets are lifetime .
Not much discount on a trade card either

I used the Pro range quite a lot in college, those tools were absolutely abused by students and not a single breakage. Not bad for a cheapy set to be honest, the stamp on them makes a lot of tools snobs turn up their nose, but if you can get the job done with them, where is the problem?

My 3/8 drive pro ratchet finally died after ten years sterlibg service. It has been well used and finally gave up due to me putting a 3 foot extension on the handle. So you can see the abuse it took before failing.

They sell the internals loose

I have 2 different sets from them, and I re built my 1958 land rover up with them (full strip down and re build) I rate them highly, the only thing thats not under the guarantee is the box they come in, but they still replaced it for free when the clips broke on it

Hope you managed to get an AF set off them then for that job. Not a metric nut or bolt anywhere near a 1958 Landrover.

Yea that was the smaller set, mostly made up of af stuff.... its worn and well used, and the chrome has worn away in parts, and I think I did swap a ratchet over, but they all still work like new

Thats handy to know, the hinges have just broke on my set, the tools inside the case are great though.
