Motorway hardshoulder rant

Done a lot of motorway miles lately and have seen several people being dicks on the hard shoulder. It aint hard get behind a barrier if its there. Watch the traffic. Dont stand next to the refuges if they have stand in em and worse of all(seen this twice this week already) if rejoining the traffic BUILD UP SPEED ON THE SHOULDER! Dont just pull out into lane one from a standing start!!!!!:mad:
 
Some people just can't seem to regester how fecking dangerous these places are
Bad news if you get hit and bad news for the poor sod who hims you ( not allways to blame)
 
The problem is that learner drivers aren't allowed (rightly) onto motorways, so they never get taught the correct way to do things.

Theory questions are OK, but no substitute for the bum-twitchingly frightening place which is the British motorway.

Once they've passed their driving test, the last thing they want to do is take more lessons on motorway driving.

No but they are taught on dual carriageways though, which aren't really all that different from a motorway. Same speed limit on most, slip roads both on and off, some have hard shoulders etc...
 
personaly I think P plates should be compulsary and not allowed on motorway untell passed one year (to get little experiance behind wheel) . whilst on rant ots stupid that they can pass in a mini (or other small car) and drive dads fast/powerfull car same day
 
It should be mandatory to do pass plus course and have a green L plate for a year after passing.

I see too many young people who are obviously inexperienced making simple mistakes that a course would stop but could kill them if they are unlucky.
 
Unfortunately the driving lessons and test don't do what we need them to do. Sure they teach you how to drive a car by putting your hands and feet at the right places and at the right times but that's about it. The actual experience and knowledge of driving and road use is minimal and usually isn't fully learned until you're out there on your own and doing it on your own, after you've passed your test.
This then causes the problem of people picking skills up at a different pace and on a different level to everyone else, resulting in huge differences in the skill levels of all drivers. Some are very good and some are abysmal. Which, when you're driving almost 2 tons of metal at 70mph, is a scary thing indeed
 
I am totally against p plates etc as some see these drivers as a money machine.. It is all to common for people to cause an accident with a new driver and then claim it was their fault and get a huge payout on the insurance, new drivers pay more than enough insurance without being scammed to..
I do however believe all new drivers should undergo at least 4 hours tuition on motorways before being permitted to use them solo..

maybe just me but if I see P plates I give them a bit more room and consideration as I know they may panic or just get manouver wrong

I see what your saying but the stupidly powerful hot hatches still leave that problem. Jumping from a fiat 500 0.9l to a fezza is a big jump. Bu going from the 500 to the abrath 500 isnt but its 135 brake in that tiny car.

know what your saying but was a general point, think bikes still have bhp limit on licence for starters dont they. could do same for cars

Didn't in my day, went straight from a James Cadet to a 750 Suzuki, didn't do me any harm but it did scare the sh1t out of the lorry driver on the N bound A11 6 days later when I flew majestically past his windscreen before landing on my head in a layby, having cut a moggy 1000 in half at silly MPH.
well I say it didn't do me any harm I did break my left scaphoid :D:D:D unlucky or what?

didnt in mine either but it was one of changes I could see sense in , just bit unfair they didnt do cars at same time
 
I have only been driving 2yrs, motorways scare the **** out of me still! I also don't think I learnt much about driving on them and had to figure it out myself. When I passed my test I put p plates on my car by choice but I found other drivers to be really rude to me trying to hurry me along beeping at roundabouts etc. After only a week I took the plates off and noticed other drivers impatience calmed a lot.
