only if yer prepared to use a 4 (or more) to 1 line pull.

I've recovered quite big vehicles with my ickle superwinch but by the time you have several snatch blocks out you only have a very short pull before having to re-rig, even when using long strops.

For vehicles with lost traction YES as long as it's on solidish ground (mud on road on a steep hill, ice etc). For bogged vehicles NO.

how about for a rear winch?

That's what I used mine as. I had it bolted to a dixon and bate drop hitch plate. If pulling summit like a sprinter you need bloody big washers on the mounting bolts cos otherwise it pulls em through cos they only have 2 mounting bolts.

stick it on a 6 to 1 pull and it will pull around 8000lb

Being able to actually work out what is what with the cables and having such a short range is a pretty big drawback though.
