intercooler

will a new uprated itercooler on my 1997 auto edc make any difference to my performance i have a de-cat & egr blank.

I get 30-35mpg out of my 1997 tdi D1. I think that's pretty good for a 2 ton lump of metal with a 2495cc diesel engine, and the aerodynamics of a housebrick. Just drive her nicely, and she'll be nice back. Probably.

fit a different cooler spend loads of money on it and notice no difference atall.anyone who says by fitting just a different cooler saw a rise in performance is talking out of there @rse

As others have said fitting a larger, performance orientated intercooler will do little or nothing on it's own.

To be honest if it's more economy you are looking for there's loads of other, cheaper places to look at first.

Brakes binding?

Tyres pressures 32 front 36 at the back?

Road or off-road tyres?

New air filter?


Etc etc etc

35mpg from a Tdi is either optimistic (ie calculation error), or just not likely for most. Ok 30+ can be done if you drive gentle and keep your speed down. But I doubt everyone can get near that and it will depend on the type of use and roads you drive. Also with an auto no f'ing chance.

the original intercooler is only 1/5th of the size needed for this engine.
I have a new one of a vauxhall frontera and its 3x the size.

Mine has a de-cat, egr removed ,ailsport intercooler and a k&n filter with a safari snorkel and its a wee bit faster but not really worth the cost.

From reading some post on here, does the diesel pump tweak not have the most immediate cheap effect?

fine tuning the pump timing and making sure that all fluids and filters are good helps a lot and then maybe a tweak on the pump should be all that is needed for reasonable fuel economy oh and dont forget less of the lead foot also works wonders

plus one or 2 other bits.
