Wow, how could a few horror stories put someone off the green oval? You hear horror stories about all vehicles as all vehicles break (even jap motors, just generally in boring ways that don't involve fire and death). Just buy one you can afford, but remember, you might be able to get a luxury motor for shed money, but they still have luxury motor running costs.

Perhaps you should consider Shed of the Week? Usually some nice cheap luxury motors right up your strata.

Dot dot ####ing dot.

You want to buy a huge arse fore be fore to commute 6 miles and the odd run up in t'dales? You're a blithering idiot. Honestly, people like you are why the baby narwhals died. If I still loved 6 miles from work I'd run it every day. To get a bloody fore be fore for 6 god damn miles? #### ME IN THE FACE WITH A SHOVEL!

Thanks for that lol always somebody on these forums to attack you rather than give you advice

I think Bix is coming from a view that a Range Rover should be bought and used for the reason Charles Spencer King designed it in the first place....for country pursuits and exceptional Off Road Ability and not just as an on road 'Chelsea' tractor....

I use my Range Rover off road, as many do...if I had no need for it, I'd have a BMW 7'er instead...

The L322 is a combination of my two favourite cars - a Range Rover and an E38 BMW 7'er.....

If I had no need to go off road...I'd have a 7'er instead....

Like those animal adverts at Christmas.....A Range Rover is for Off Road, Not just for the Road

Got to agree. Mine was bought mainly for my doggie but also for towing the horses and pulling the other so called 4x4s out of fields at events.

Lol I will keep looking then and report my findings. Anyway why not have a range rover for a 6 miles commute if you can afford it!
Because it is a short 6 mile walk and you live in a town. The most offroading you'll do is up the drive way. I recognise this is du jour for the school run types, if you want luxury to waft around in get a saloon, can get a very tidy mid-00s S-Class for about 4 grand these days (plus they have 30 year corrosion guaranty which is handy). If you want to haul around muts any estate would do the job, Volvo V70 springs to mind, if you absolutely must have fore be fore for those leaf covered roads an Audi A4 Avant.

If you want reliability, VW do a nice range of vehicles that'll fit the bill Passat Estate for example, as do Toyota, Honda, Nissan...

But no, you want the school run/drug dealer image. They can't be run on a shoe string and you can bet your bottom dollar a lot of the early examples have been by this point, especially ones with a high number of owners. The gearbox will fail on you so might be worth keeping a spare car for when it finally goes pop. The age range you're looking at airbags will be on the way out, so you'll need a grand for that.

They are not practical in town vehicles, if I could get shot of mine I would be cruising around in an S-Class or an XK, but as I spend most of my time in places that softroaders can only dream about, the silly thing is here to stay.

For town driving all you're doing is sending a child to an early grave as the leading edge of the bonnet is in beautiful striking range for the sort of child who is daft enough to run into the roads. Not to mention more blind spots than the QE2. Perfect for reversing over some poor git.

The Range Rover is to get you through rough ground in luxury. There have been luxury town cars for years, stick to them.

Amen :D

Oh don't get me wrong it will certainly not be a Chelsea tractor, most weekends we are in the countryside with the dog, and a range rover would make things a lot Easyer than my currant car. We carry a lot of walking gear, wellies, hip flasks, guns ect lol well maybe not the latter and I would love to use it off road. I would just be using it to go to wrk in aswell. I think you have got me all wrong that's all we do spend a lot of our lives following country pursuits, I've taken up shooting lessons for example, I really do feel like a range rover would suit us and joined the forum to learn more about them

Ah, I apologise dear boy. In that case a Range Rover would be perfect. Just remember to keep about 3-4k in reserve for the big failure items. Although the gearbox has become a great bartering tool. Sealed for life, pahahha.

Although truth be told something like a Volvo XC70 or Audi A4 Crossover would still be perfect for you. Possibly less headache too. :p

I certainly don't want the drug dealer image, if I wanted that a would buy a range rover sport. We don't want an estate, be it merc, or a boring Audi, the last few winters have proven difficult for us to get about where we live, and having a long drive to my parents was a nightmare, like I sed in my last post I would love to take it offroad and I would espesh some of the places we go walking on a weekend. Would be nice if you cud hold back on the digs a little as you know little about me. Thanks for the advice on other cars all the same
