I've been to look at 5 range rover vogues now 03,04 plates, between 8 and 10k miliages from 78k on a v8 upto 117k on a diesel and all the interiors have been really tatty! Now I know these cars are getting on abit but I felt it really took away the quality feel of them, most of them wo in great condition on the outside but all the Interior plastics had worn and just looked really poor, not impressed so far lol land rover build quality eh!. Anyway rant over

The quality of the interior plastics and exterior trim is crap:eek: None of the plastic is self coloured, it's all painted and the paint wears off.
 
Not wanting to start a p39 v L322 debate but the interior on the L322 is less likely to stand up to wear & tear as Data says, due to painted plastics. I've noticed the silver plastics on the seat base in particular show lots of wear. In comparison, my P38 interior is like new (with a tiny amount of creasing on the front leather seats). I'ts generally a problem on newer cars as the trend is for silver everywhere (which has to be painted). I've had new cars in far worse condition than my p38 after a couple of years use.

I may start looking into p38s at this rate as I'm really not impressed so far with the l322, wots the diesel like in the p38? Now I'm prob gona start a debate but is the p38 more reliable and are they as comfy to drive
 
I have a colleague with a 2001 P38 petrol Autobiography on 80+K mileage and the interior is just like new. My 2000 Holland and Holland has leather everywhere and is lovely. Worked on several L322s lately and not one was a car I would buy, all tatty inside, broken switches etc etc
 
Of course it is turbocharged. You couldn't haul around 2.7ton of scrap metal using such a small derv without boost. We'd be looking closer to 5litres for a N/A derv.

That said the interior of the P38 isn't all that smashing, parts of my interior are starting to show signs of wear. The centre console isn't coloured so I have white bits showing through. The "wood" trim all looks vulgar, drivers seat is collapsing in the expected places (also offers no support for my slender frame and part of the back rest is in the wrong place so feels odd at first). The headlining is starting the inevitable transformation into a scarf. The HVAC pot is starting to fail and a bunch of bulbs have died. Plus I suspect the blend motors are sticking too.

Erm, actually I think that is everything, my only other gripe comes from a P/O who "fixed" a rattle by using a couple of self tapping screws to secure some trim rather than replacing the broken clips. That sort of lazy bollocks gets right up my nose.

Ah, the Green Oval build quality. There is nothing else quite like it. Excluding Rover, Jag, Lotus, TVR, Nobel... tell you what, list any "British" marquee here and it'll have equally ****ty build quality.

P38 diesel, engine is reliable compared to the V8 but no ball of fire. Comfort is a personal thing. I Prefer the P38 seats to the German BMW park bench hard seats in the L322,
The P38 is also cheaper and easier to DIY maintain then the L322. For example one L322 air strut air strut costs about the same as a set of 4 airsprings for the P38. Diagnostic kit is also cheaper for the P38.:)
 
Diesel has to be the way for reliabilty but test drive one or a few to see if it's for you. I couldn't get on with the hard work needed for the throttle so went for the V8 & took a chance - just search slipped liners & you'll soon get the picture.
Go for a late model 2000 - 2002.

The rest of it is pretty good considering some of the tales I have heard about them....

Pictures taken at 137K when I bought her....

Seat edge taken this afternoon and she flipped to 150K at the weekend!

That can be cleaned up and dyed pretty easily.The joys of cream leather,if your seat were black, you wouldn't even notice it!
