OEM true meaning? original or copy?

I was under the impression that if a component was OEM or Original Equipment Manufacturer, then the component was the same as supplied to the vehicle manufacturer.

So if I buy a Land Rover part supplied as OEM then I'm buying a replacement of the original part.... yes?

This seems to vary depending on who you buy from, anyone care to elaborate on what it really means?

Some companies make stuff for other larger companies ...

Lucas is an example ... so you can either buy LR or straight from Lucas ...

there are times when oem or other branded can be better than an oe lr part,or were oe and oem are the exact same thing as was with timken bearings etc

As the site "guru" do you know of any way around those manufacturers whose ABS wheel bearings are dealer(fffin £££££) only?

thats what I thought, hence why I bought them but wanted to check with all this oem business lol
