Started having a go at me about how the road should be closed that someone was coming to get her and i probably wasnt even trying to go anywhere and was just out playing.

I pointed out the fact that there was a measuring thing to tell her how deep the water was and she was stupid for attempting it and left her to it.

Saw my first decent flood whilst drivin the landy today! :D Saloon shaped merc was bobbin round with the fire brigade in waders pushing it out - if they hadn't been there i'd have driven through as it was only about 3ft deep at a guess, definitely passable but didn't think the fire brigade would appreciate it, came back later n the road was closed with a big lorry pumping the water out :doh:

One of our guys took 4 hours getting to a stricken vehicle yesterday in order to avoid deep water. The driver of the U boat repeatedly told him that the water was only 6" deep where he was stuck. After our driver refused to take his truck in water above 2 ft deep the guy moaned about how it was deeper earlier and then called our guy a w***er. He then wanted a lift home. Funnily enough the answer was no.

Apparently it's the recovery operators faults that people are driving in flood water and all breakdown and recovery vehicles should be able to fly, float, hover and break the sound barrier as standard.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
 
My local ford. Was closed by police. Water was running pretty quick though.

And that's why emergency services are inundated with people who are out to "play".

The " I reckon I could do it" attitude blocks roads that tractors, and 4tonners need to get through for genuine emergencies.

I only go through the ones that I know for a fact I'll get through with no problem. If it looks too deep I'll save it for a pay and play day.
 
Facts as I know them are;

If there are road closed signs and you bye pass them you can be charged. They may also claim against you for costs incurred in recovering your vehicle and subsequent damage it may have caused.

Why choose a flood situation to test how "capable" your Landy is? Surely it's better to do it in a controlled situation first.

Some roads although you might deem them passable are closed for a reason. They are designated rescue routes for actual amphibious vehicles. When you conk out or fail and get stuck you block that route.
 
I wouldn't at all. I'm in the potentially embarrassing situation of having a Defender with snorkel and full breather kit fitted.......that is a TD5.

Having opened the driver's side seat box and seen what's inside, I'm loathe to drive it over so much as damp gravel. :cool:
 
I haven't fully sealed my snorkel, haven't practised, need to rewire thermostatic fan, can't remove diff plugs, need to extend breathers, need to fit grill Matt thingy and new belts to fit.

Plenty to be going on with.

is that a dig at me or a pop at the merc?? :suspicious:

if its a dig at me then the fact that I've said that firemen were walking around in the water in waders is enough to say its safe enough to drive through in a lifted, breather'd landy - doubt the water would have touched me lights n i've had water well over the bonnet in "tests" at p+p sites...

Drive into many uncovered manholes or submerged obsticles at pnp?
