Reality check its a 1k rot box, it fell apart its budget motoring with a roulette wheel, some u win some u lose

I agree, but an Engineer, as an "expert witness" can state whether, in his opinion, the faults are likely to have been present prior to the purchase.
having said that - dont bother .......... it will be a waste of time, money, effort and will just get the OP depressed. Move on and dont make the same mistake again.

Check a car over before you buy it, if you don't then you can't start crying when it's a piece of s**t. Subframes don't rust enough to be deemed dangerous in a matter if months so they must have been like that when you bought it, a quick check underneath should show that. Suspension mounts, tie rods etc....didn't you notice the symptoms while driving it? Scrap it or sell the engine to an SJ owner for conversion and get back what you can on it.

But how will an engineer know how the cars been used/abused/treated in the 6 months of ownership?
It could have been used for 6 months launching a boat into salt water and driven like an idiot there not to know

An engineers report is pointless. It doesn't matter whether the faults were there or not when the car was sold. All that matters is whether or not the seller knew about the faults and lied about it. Unless the seller is a mechanic or engineer, or the vehicle had been inspected prior to the sale and a report handed to the seller, then you have pretty much fook all chance of a court judgement in your favour.
Ok chaps I hear what you are saying and I know its my fault for not having had it inspected properly and I'm not looking for compensation per say I was just was just hoping for a bit of damage limitation on my Bank balance . I concider myself bollocked but wondered after reading Mad hat mans thread about crocks of s**t and traders whether there was any legislation against private sellers for something as serious as this . Calm down lads calm down . I don't hold with all that compensation crap .

Unless you can show that the seller deliberately lied to you about the condition of the car, you have no hope.

the condition of the motor is only irrelevant if you have no evidence showing that it was sold as being of a particular condition. which is what I said.
If you have receipt showing that it was sold in a particular condition, then it would help prove that it could not have been in that condition when purchased. Not on its own.
I cant see why we are arguing this point. We have both said the OP is on a hiding to nothing.

You seem to getting confused with consumer law. If the vehicle was sold by a dealer, then you would be correct, as the dealer has a duty of care to ensure that the item is exactly as described. In regards to a private sale, all a seller is required to do is to be as accurate as they can reasonably be expected to be. The onus is on the seller to make sure the vehicle is as described as far as is reasonably possible. It doesn't matter if the vehicle is not as described in a private sale, as long as the seller did not deliberately mislead the buyer.
Never mind chaps , there is no point argueing over any points , as a reletive newby I realise now that there are touchy subjects that can't be broached with some of our more sensetive members so I will be more careful in future not to incur the wroath of some of you causeing you to spit dummies all over the uk . To others of you( and you know who your are)whom were good enough to offer sensible calm and practical advise I give you a heart felt thank you for taking the trouble to impart your knowledge so freely .
Seems like you purchased a bad motor. I would, as already suggested, take it on the chin and move on. Good on you for being brave enough to open this thread as it can be embarrassing to admit you purchased a lemon but it does remind others to be careful when buying privately.
Not sure if already covered but must have a scrap value? Compared to a lot of motors on the road including the new and old it has not worked out an overly expensive period of motoring.
