Mates got a Thor powered P38 and it appears to have sticky throttle. if he puts a couple of drops of oil on the butterfly linkage it is better for a couple of days, but thats all.

Is this a common problem, or symptomatic of summat else?

any ideas?

Not uncommon, but also not common enough to be considered a typical issue....

My only thoughts would be to use some good coppaslip or lithium based grease (not to much as overgreased things become sticky again!!) as the oil will just end up being evapourated after a few days due to under bonnet temperature.

Try some slippery grease, and see if that lasts longer than a couple of days....

One that is slippery...duh

What I meant by that is, typical multipurpose grease like EP2 is to thick - so I would have thought a copper based grease or lithium or graphite grease which has a low Co-eff. of friction would be a good one to try...

has anyone got an exploded view of the Throttle body ( and surounding springs n stuff) for a Thor V8?

Best I could Muster Mister - and even then I am not sure on the throttle linkage!!

Make sure the throttle cable is totally free. Nylon lined cables don't like oil in them. Or if there is a partial bad engine earth can get hot and melt the nylon causing a bind. Or there maybe a broken wire in it causing a bind.

Just a thought but is it worth taking the throttle body off and soaking the throttle butterfly and spindle with carb cleaner - could just be a bit gummed up inside.

Good old-school suggestion! Like it! I do this every couple of months, MAF sensor and throttle position sensor and a few good squirts inside the throttle for good measure. Also regularly change the air-intake filter, and fuel inline filter, it makes a huge difference.
