After a cunning mind more incisive than me own.

The last couple of times I've done a little gentle wading ;) everything's been fine until the next day when she refuses to start.....as in not turning over at all  Getting a decent 'click' from the starter solenoid but nothing else.

The last time I spent half a day going through all the connections cleaning them up, earths, battery, starter....everything I could get to and nothing made any difference until I gave up, got shouted at by the ex for being late with the kids, phoned a mate to come give me a tow/bump start and as he turned up.....up she fired like she'd been doing it all along

This morning I checked voltages at battery, fuses, starter and all showing 13v, cleaned up a few connections, sprayed everything with WD....no joy.....enlisted the help of the local skateboard crew and bumped her....parked on a hill still nothing on the key.

Drove around a bit....nothing. Left her ticking over, stopped her....still nothing. Went for another drive....parked up and now she STARTS :bounce:

Still parked on a hill to be on the safe side but has anyone got any bright ideas as to where the actual issue might be so I can do something about it before the next time?

Oh yeah.....tis a 200 in a 2a and the wiring isn't the tidiest I've ever seen but it's not badly done.

i always pressure wash my enjin after the day on the plains as the mud seems to set like concrete

my guess is sludge has got in and is hindering the connections on the brushes on the starter motor

mind u parking in the middle of a muddy run aint a great idea

if it is where I think it is - its a rutted section with a gravel bottom - once yu have stopped - thats it.

be forwarned - Salisbury mud gets everywhere and sets like concrete!
wash it off immediately or suffer the consequences :(
Patman didnt wash his and laid it up for 6 months - when he came back to it, the chassis was rotten

Does look a little em-bare-arseing  Did much deeper yesterday but what yer looking at is about 3'' of water.........the rest is thick, gloopy sludge

Made it 2nd time by using Pikeys advanced wading technique......

Drive like a complete nutter whose arse is on fire :D

Grrrrrrr

3 days now and mostly fine until today.....after 11 hours work just wanted to go home.

Same story, click from solenoid but refusing to even try to turn over.......fiddled around for an hour and tried to start her hundreds of times and not a bloody dickie.

Stuck on a rutted track and couldn't get hold of anyone local so walked home in the end.

Finally a mate phones me back and gives me a lift back to my Landy to give her a pull start....stick the key in the ignition and she fires up 1st time :confused::confused:

Doing my head in now :frusty:

If it's chalky residue in the starter what can I do about it and how can I prevent it happening again? Any ideas please.......

clean the windings out with carb cleaner as it dont leave residue on yer windings to attract dust ,if you can, give the windings a good air dusting before and after then leave it to dry in a warm place don't be tempted to force dry it with heat .

Cause I need her for work and its a long way from the weekend........when I'm also supposed to be working.

Where does water get into the starter in the 1st place? Surely it isn't supposed to

can you borrow a starter from anyone until the weekend, or if the solenoid is shagged try jumping the point with a screwdriver (not advisable but for an emergency ok) if it starts everytime like that then you know it's the solenoid thats fooked.
