I have a 1996 Defender 90, 300tdi pickup. What is the best MPG I can get out of it ?

And what is the best speed to drive at to acheive the best MPG ?

Got to drive it from northern england to sweden so i need to get the best out of it.

Also what sort of weight can i carry in the back ? Just had it rebuilt with galv chassis and HD springs. ???????????????

thanks in advance to anyone with answers and advice

Hiya Steven

:welcome2: to landyzone

Assuming it's a manual (most 300tdi defenders are) you're looking at around 30mpg.

You're best driving it at about 50-60mph to get the best mileage out of it. If you wish to drive faster you may want to consider exchanging your transfer box for one out of a discovery as you can then do around 70 for the same mpg.

The payload is roughly 750kg. Don't forget that the more weight you bolt to it (bull bars, side steps, rock sliders, ifor williams back etc) the less weight you can carry.

I think the workshop manual for my 90 hard top states 962kg over the back axle for hd springs. would have to be spread very evenly though!
