I have just done a 2" lift on my disco and it has developed a real bad vibration. The lift is all pucka stuff, dropped front turrets and rear shock mounts, springs, dislocation cones, rear sway arms, brakes lines e.t.c. But since doing it it has got a big vibration when under load, if i coast it seems ok but if i power along it starts to really vibrate...

Im suspecting its the prop doughnut, maybe the angles to much now? Anyone know if theres any other issues that i should be made aware off? Its annoying as i wanted to get out in it soon...

a friend of mine had the same issue on a defender...it was sorted out after a propshaft rebalancing/realignment(or something like that)...maybe it gives u an ideea cos i'm dumb in this area:eek:

If you got a rear prop donut, change it, it'll only tear apart when you least want it to. Convert it to have a 4 bolt diff flange.

Have a look at the prop donut, it'll probably look out pushed an twisted out of shape.

Vibration could well be that or your front prop flanges not being parallel anymore due to the lift, might be worth some castor correction radius arms up front.

Yeah its a twisted shape, thats what makes me think its prop related. How easy is the conversion? more to the point how expensive? I still need a steering guard before i next go and money is running out :(

I knew the props day were numbered but i hoped for more thanjust off the ramp, i want to go offroading!!

surely getting it running right is more important that a steering guard?

a steering guard is more important than a lift.

Yep, its budgeted for just not bought yet, i have only had the thing a week, its a replacement for the last 4x4 that has decided to die on me, mind you could you expect much from a frontera?

What is it they say, sarcasm, wit, lowest form, something like that, is it really needed? Im asking for a bit of advice incase theres something else im missing, i dont want to spend money i dont need to and my experience with modding cars and running classics shows its not always the obvious...

yes, we thrive on it here :)

Err, that would make the vibration worse!

That's what i meant, if your prop flanges are on the **** you'd get vibration, may not have been wrote in my bestest england but it what i meanded!

4 bolt flange kit and a new 4 bolt prop about £200 once delivered my reckons?

Could be wrong though

Yep
Remove the lift and return the suspension to how Land Rover intended it.

Not really an option, I have done the lift for a reason and am sticking with it... its ok though, I have sorted it, it was the front prop UJ that has failed, £20 and its now done, alls good...

Just wanted to subscribe to this thread as my disco is doing the same after a 2" lift.

I've checked the UJ's regularly and the rear doughnut is fairly new, I fitted it when I brought the truck a couple of months ago.

I'll check the UJ's again but if they are fine is there anything else I could check?

If your prop is out of ballance to any degree I wonder if it being at a greater angle due to the lift make it seem more out of balance in any way , just a thought,

also I have found that my UJ's when they need more grease, the vibrate, I normaly pump all the old grease out after every off road playtime, if I dont they seem to vibrate a bit try that. you never know.
