centre diff stiff as hell.

only recently my centre diff is stiff as hell to move either way! low range and high range no problems.

anyone know what will cause this? its literally that hard that i have to get out the car and put my whole biody weight on it!

yes its seizeing up remove tunnel strip assembly clean and lube

I'd say it's time for a transfer box overhaul.... it's not as hard as it could seem.

I thought the spigot was blocked sorry.... happened to me though....but if i think better what u say is more obvious and common.... i'm a bit out of line cos i have an improvised CDL made by myself with a flexible wrench extension.:doh:

its easier to go in through the top to check lever linkage ,on disco you would have to remove gear stick ,hi/low knob and gaiter ,window switch panel ,hand brake pin to allow lever to pull up then consol and plate to access the linkage

Bloody hell I did that before to put the cable on. it was a bloody long job! Is there no other way? And what part would I be greasing up is just the outside or internals?

Ok so once I've removed all the **** from above is there anything I'm supposed to be taking off the t-box or am I just greasing a linkage?

Try to engage the spigot on the TB with a small spanner to make certain this one isnt bogged down.... if it's properly working u'll see the CDL light on the dash(with ignition on off course)

I only use my difflock in the snow so thats only been in the last few years, but i've never had a problem perhaps because years ago I rolled underneath and used half a spray can of waxoyl over the top of the transfer box in the hope some of it went on the linkage, it looks like it did.

So after you have freed up the linkage cover it in waxoyl.

right i have managed to get it all apart and the centre diff cable is seized solid. ive sprayed half a can of wd 40 down both ends. still nothing.

also the plastic sleeve has slightly melted, will this cause a problem?

yes the only way it could get melted unless your giving poor description or are mistaken is with poor earths and cable been used as one ,normaly hand brake cable

Many places list them at around £122+vat !.

It isnt actually a cable, its a metal rod/shaft thats inside an armoured outer sleeve.

Is it possible to put one end in a vice, ( clevis end ), and gradually and gently see if you can get some movement by twisting it, as it,ll probably only be seized near the ends.
