Sorry to hear your not having much luck wif the unit, if your interested I've got a few better units linked on my ebay account these are the ones I'd upgrade my unit with once I decide to swap.

The issues your having with the GPS may be the receiver! can you check the connection to the unit I know it's basic, either that or get another receiver to try.

If I pass B&Q near where I live I loose the signal for GPS, then it comes back on as soon as I pass!! Haven't a clue why but it's not an issue.

My unit feels like it's been in the car the whole time now, sat watching Willow of all things whilst waiting for my son to get his mullet cut.... Very hot day, windows down Film music blasting out the car!

It must be hit and miss with these units.
My Xtrons unit, once wired in... is pretty spot on.
Bluetooth streaming is spot on alhough it would be nice if you could set the Tel volume on its own.
I must admit that I thought the unit sound was crap until I messed with the sound settings. Now it sounds great, even on 25% volume.

Re. Reversing Camera wiring.
My thoughts are to install a 3 way switch below the sunroof switch so I can select auto on, manual on or off. Sure I have a switch in the tool box somewhere.

Not looking at fitting reaar screens yet as we have these built-in in the wife's Espace.

Still think DOUBLE DIN is the way forward.

I fit alot of these systems and can be very good - you need to watch for 'recon' units, I had a lad buy one of these and gave him GPS problems which he never cured, and the dealer was less than helpful!

New units are usually quite simple. Headrest units come with the headrest in a variety of finishes, you just replace the existing one and feed the wires down. Watch the SD cards, as some are near their data capacity - which means they will run fine until you go to too many places or add too many POI's and then they go down. You can transfer the data to a decent 4gb one. Different brands require different data cards - don't go by what the card says it is!

The aerials you get with them are 'ok' for main reception points - you can upgrade the aerials - which is what I tend to do as standard now - to much better ones. This not only improves the GPS signal, but gives better reception on the DTV and digital radio capability.

You may find that store CCTV systems, and other wireless data devices will momentarily knock the signal out on a weak aerial.

thats a good point....my first unit may well have been 'used' before although perfectly packed...my second unit was definately brand new and even had two screws and a label that had to be removed from the top of the unit before installing as they hold the dvd drive in place whilst in transit, did either of yours have these screws fitted hippo?

Yes mine had the red label and screws on the top which you take off when fitting, Hippo if you want I can send mine to you as I don't need them now haha:D

My own thoughts are: get rid and if you still want one buy from another supplier, clearly the seller is the problem here it's not really the units fault, things sometimes happen but you'd expect a seller to send you a new unit if thats what you paid for!

Marky Load The Photo's No More Put Off's, Look what it's doing to the Hipsta!!

thanks for the help but not needed.

Double din allready out and my old one back in.

and must i say the old one is clearly better than the double din was.

the sound clarity is just amazing now, and you can turn it right up and it doesnt distort like the double din did.

i guess the expensive alpine unit has a better quality amp.

You get what you pay for  now ive learnt

A relief to have the old one back in :D

now to get my £200 back !

It is true you get what you pay for, but alot of the unit's you find on the net are the same units in UK shops but with a nice price increase.

You clearly got a bad unit, via a bad seller, which is bad luck. Atleast you will get your cash back and soon put this whole thing behind you.....

But hey you've learnt so much about this now you know what to look out for and what to miss, I knew what I was getting for my cash and supplied with the backing that the units a good one.

Was the poor sound quality the fault of the head unit or your big boy exhaust haha

Guess we'll have to start nagging you about something else....... Hummmm Headrests, no, already tried that...... Hummmm DICE!! Now that's class in a glass!

Oh well mate...sorry it hasn't turned out too well, good luck with getting your dosh back.

At least that alpine will be sounding even better thru those new speakers now!!!

yea it sure does mate ! sounds the dogs now ! i only changed the speakers when i added the new double din unit - that was me thinking the old speakers sounded ****e when it was the cheapy double din making them sound crap as they sounded good with the alpine unit ! lol

now got to spend another £20 to buy another harness for my steering controls to connect to my alpine unit ! as the old one got cut up when trying to get my gps unit to work !

hay ho !

hmmmm got to say that I wasn't expecting the unit to sound as good as it does even thought the HK makes a difference, I was watching a movie the other day and the windows were vibrating!!! Sound from dvd's is awesome.......talksport sounds a bit tinny though lol

Ok, Ok, give a man a break lol

After having it in for a couple of weeks now I've got to say that bang for buck its a great unit (soz hippo) sound through the HK system is superb, sat nav is precise, bluetooth is excellent, both for calls and music streaming, so yep, happy with it :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Well done for getting the pictures loaded up, get yourself one of them choc bars!!

So that's it I guess 3 out of 5 aint bad, could have been 4 out of 5 but Hips messed up his wiring to much..... bless.

Wonder what ever happened to the lady boy of bangkok!?

Just taken delivery of the reversing camera.

Had a quick look and found that I can use the 'Lady Sensors' (reversing sensors) feed located just above the in-car fuse box. I can even turn it off with the girly switch :)

Now thats a good idea bud :)

just waiting to see your pics before i order mine ;)

be interested in how the unit reacts to the gearbox having to go thru reverse each time you select drive....

I'd guess the screen may flicker a little?

When I select reverse, the screen takes a second or two before it changes to the reverse camera, so you may be OK.....

You'd not be the first to add to an Auto stick.

good to see your all getting on with your gps units :D

im still waiting for my refund on the one i returned

so instead of buying another unit and fitting im buying one of these instead ..... :D:D:D
