Hey there,

Want to get the ol P38 chipped - its a 2001 dHSE but don't want to have the ECU remapped so looking for the plug in chip-boxes. Seen quite a few on the market and wondered what people here thought of the varius options, both in terms of quality and after sales service.

I have had a read of all a few of the threads on here about this but haven't found any specific comments on particular brands ...

Spider - Offer a 5 Yr Warranty but no-one ever answers their phones so am not entirely confident I will get anywhere if there is a problem - Diesel tuning. Spider® diesel tuning performance systems for tuning all modern diesel cars vans and diesel truck.

DTS - Also offer 5 Yr warrantly - Are they the same as Spider?? Diesel Tuning and Performance tuningbox No1, chiptuning from the UK's experts

Rimmer Bros: Powerbox 2: Power Box 2 - Diesel Fuel Saver for Range Rover P38 at www.rimmerbros.co.uk - 3 yr guarantee (limited) - whatever that means.

PSI Power chip - on ebay - Range Rover P38 2000-2001 Diesel PSI Power tuning chip on eBay (end time 17-Mar-11 21:41:11 GMT)

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Cheers!

I have seen them being advertised as being for 2000/1 models and for pre 2001 models (1995 on). Is there any difference?

Are the connections different?

I bought an RPI engineering chip for my V8 in 2007, never looked back...
Expensive but worth it.
Think they also do chips for DSE's

Yep, the PSI Pwerbox I have just plugged in is great. Much improved power and better fuel economy. I bought mine rom Foundry 4X4. They recommended an upgraded air filter (£20) which I bought as well. It's transformd the car and well worth it.

Hi, my DSE has a superchip fitted, will worth it, economy is 9-9.5 litre/100km and the peak torque curve is at about 2500rpm-3000rpm, so at a 100km/hr you are cruising at 2300rpm right in the torque range.

Hi 300AJC what was the upgraded air filter you got?

Ive got a PSI box on mine and its brilliant, very very pleased with it and the company is very helpfull indeed, even tho they are in belguim they answerd all my questions and emailed me details on how to "tweak" it...

Hi old traveller,

is 30.7 mpg an average or your best? What mpg were you getting previously and do synthetic oils make much of a difference to mpg?

Thanks, Andrew

I fitted a K&N air filter from Paddock spares. Made a hell of a difference. Looking at chip upgrade next.

was that compared to a dirty std filter or a new filter? I'll be amazed if the oe air filter is limiting power on a std engine. V happy to learn otherwise. I'll have to whip my filter out to test!

Yep, std dirty filter. But K&N are designed to be more efficient and promote better airflow. Does it make a difference? should do, oe filter £4 odd K&N £28! They do have the reputation however.

I don't think even tight fisted LR would compromise an engines performance by fitting an air filter with insufficient air flow. Put the car on a rolling road and do a before and after HP check, I doubt you would find £24 worth of difference.
