Ok, so as you lot know I'm shiny-brand new to the forum, so go easy... :D

As my post title suggests, I'm trying to find out how possible it is to lower the suspension on either a landrover 90 or 110 chassis is, and what sort of work is involved. Im not a metal work or fabrication genius, but I do know my way around Landrovers pretty well.

I ask this, not because I want to defile or ruin a trusty 'Rover, but I want, in the end, to create a custom hot-rod.

Now, my budget isn't massive, and it's a looooong project over a few years, but in order to withstand 500hp+ and 700lbft, and with a physically large engine I need a big start point. Hence why a landy ladder chassis is perfect for the task. When stripped bare, it becomes easy to reinforce with braces, custom mount engine and gearbox, and figure out steering and braking assemblies.

So, if there is anyone on here who has done it successfully, or has a website where I can get some info, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks guys,

Chaz

oh gawd:doh:

I can't believe there are people out there thick enough to think that defenders and series vehicles would make good chelsea tractors. Worse still are those who think they can make a hot rod out of them. It has been 63 years since the land rover came out, and 63 years since mankind established that they are absolutely AWFUL on the road, and always will be. And it's not as if these "slammed" series 1s look good.

Go, find yourself any old Volkswagen, let that poor landy go and use it as a pulling vehicle for your Trailer Queen!

Wow. You lot are super awesome....

Look, I'm not a **** head, but I do work un-sociable hours.

I know you lot on here seem to think that if it isn't up to the headliner in ****, mud and bog water, it isn't a real land rover, and thats cool. All I wanted to know, was just how easy it would be to lower a land rover CHASSIS.

I DON'T want a 'low-rider' landy. Yeah, alot of fabrication goes into them, but it's not my bag. The end product would be transferring over a donor shell, or custom making fiberglass body panels. I'm not sure yet either way.

I joined this forum to get a link or something similar over to an engineering firm, or even pictures of the bare chassis that has been lowered, to see how they went about it. But yeah, I could always put 2 tonnes of sharp sand in the back.

Cheers for that...

Just so you know, the whole point of starting out with a monster beefy chassis, such as a 90 / 110, is so that I could fabricate supports, weld braces, and build a solid car, capable of ripping my face off, but reliable everyday.

a number of years ago I saw a well slamed 80 with lights behind the grill. the pipe and slipper guys didnt like it:D:D:D. was at one of the surrey street rod meets at brooklands, will see if my mate still has the pics. it did look sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo coooooooooooooooool:cool::cool: and I have a mate who has been toying with slamming his 90 to the deck,:cool:

I've been Googling alot, but there's only so much I can handle!

I'm after some pretty specific information, so it becomes less accurate.

juicyv8 - are you a REME bloke by any chance...? Bordon ay...? And thanks mate, either way apprieciate you looking around for info.

Noeyedear - don't want the chassis to be scraping on the floor, but low enough to pass for a 'normal' car.
