bit stumped at mo, cos i dont have a/c or an auto box.
whats the idling speed difference between air con running and air con off on yours?
presuming from getting stuck in the road, it also dies off in drive, as well as reverse?

interest only at the mo, can you tell me how many wires go to your injector pump?
depending on which one it is, either 1 or 3 wires.

when its running normally, theres no sign of dieing off / lacking in power?

hi NRG...the idling sp witthout a/c..850rpm...speed with a/c...950-975rpm

after the battery change ..it starts back n i go home as usual...2moro again it dies when put to reverse with a/c running..if a/c off it doesnt die off...

n abt the injector pump...i will chek it 2moro...

Diesel should have good torque at idle speeds, you probably can stall an auto with abuse but you'd struggle to and would definitely need to be trying! I suspect the engine is down on power for some reason. Fuelling and air issues would be noticeable at higher speeds and not really affect the idle, though. So I'd suggest its something like the cambelt is one tooth out; or an issue with the EDC.

i dont know enough about the edc to comment yet, but working on possibility of bad connection on cut off solenoid if non edc. hence the pump question.

still thinking how air con can affect it being on / off

hi mates already check out the alternator ...its fine n tested good by the technician...abt the injector pump...i dunno which one is the pump ....can anybody point me out??

and i must apologized.. i was wrong abt the rpm yesterday...the rpm for my disco at idling speed(a/c off) is 900rpm...with a/c on is...850rpm....

hi mates...is this the pump we r talking abt..??

that is a pump but not the one in your auto, it will be in the same place but look a bit differant, if you follow one of the injector pipes it will lead to the pump, also it will be partly hidden under your a/c compressor.

cant open the image, but think its of the bell housing. long as it isnt ****ing oil out should be ok. its a drain hole for oil to escape from so it dont fet on the clutch. bung it up with a 1/4 bsp plug if you go thru deep water.
wet oil ok, constant dripping is an impending problem.

injector pump as hifly sez, yours will be in same place. should be cable/s near where thick pipes attach to it.
need to know how many!

Thanks NRG...yes its the bell housing ...surprisingly the mechanic here told me different ..he said its gearbox and the seal/gasket between engine and gearbox worn out..coz the drain hole(dripping) just behind the engine oil drain plug..so thats why its leaking engine oil he said...the funny thing is ..its not dripping yesterday...so i think ur right..its the bell housing...:)

anyway back to the main issue..engine cutting off when put to R while a/c running, ive taken some pics of injector pump as follows coz i duno which wire is which...:D...and its wrapped in celotape...its been like that since i bought it....

The pipes that go from one injector to another are called "leak-off pipes" and could be the problem but I doubt it.

Can't remember if you said you have renewed the fuel lift pump which is a silver coloured round thing in your last picture of the three previously posted?

thanks biglad....i dunno its new or not but it looks new since i bought my disco nearly 2 month ago...so how can i fix this problem mates..??

It will be the rear engine seal which is leaking and coming out of the bellhousing. Your mechanic was correct in describing the leak as coming froma seal between the engine and the gearbox - sort of.

Have you checked/replaced the fuel lift pump yet?

oic thanks bglad..so i got to chek the housing back....n abt fuel lift pump..how to check whether its ok or not ..??....and the leaking at the injector pipes by the engine(pics)..how to deal with it mates..??

You can check the fuel lift pump by undoing the bleed screw on the top of the fuel filter housing and pump the lever on the lift pump, it should start to pump fuel out of the bleed screw quite quickly - if it doesn't it's probably foobar'd.

New ones are about £17 from Paddocks.

And please, could you do me a big favour - stop with the text talk and start writing in std english.

You are, after all, asking for help.

Cheers
Dave

My apologies mates. My bad. Dave thanks a lot for your help.

Anyway for your guys information,it happen again. Engine dies off when im reversing but luckily it was at my porch. So im going to check as what Dave has said n see how it goes from there.Thank you all.

hi mates, regarding the case above, the fuel pump works just fine. For your guys information, the engine wouldnt start right away but it starts after an hour. I noticed that engine was very very hot while i want to open the front bonnet just after the cut off but the temperature reading is normal.

Any idea what happening mates?

p/s:what is the liquid that fill the smaller section of radiator.i know the main section is filled with coolant/water.But the smaller part of it..??

thanks a lot mates....

hi mates ...just found out its the intercooler that sit right next to radiator. however, ive never known abt it till now.Does it filled with coolant too?..how to check whether its running good or not?...has it something to do with the engine cutting off while reversing..??..thanks in advance ..

Hi NG, just for your general info, on a TDi there are three radiator-like components in the engine bay:
1. The main radiator filled with coolant for cooling the engine;

2. To the lhs of the main radiator and within it is a separate section filled with oil for cooling the gearbox;

3. To the right of the main radiator is, as you have found, the intercooler. This is filled with air pushed by the turbo. The idea is that air enters the system via the airbox and filter, goes through the turbo and is pushed under pressure through the intercooler to cool it and then into the inlet manifold and the engine.

Hope that helps your general understanding a bit.

I can't remember if you have taken the fuel sedimenter apart and cleaned it? By the way, are you getting any smoke/condensation for the exhaust? If so, what colour is it?

Cheers
Dave
