sorry in advance if i'm dragging up an old thread, but did a search but found not alot.we have a 300 tdi, manual on (m reg) 1994,non abs. The break pedal doesn't seem to travel very far and the breaks to seem to work. Its almost as if there is no power brakes. If you clutch in whilst breaking it gets worse and you lose what little breaks there are. the vac pump does seem to be working, however if i take the pipe of the servo whilst the engine is running i get a loud tapping from the engine. I am a newbie to disco's but don't mind having ago. Can anybody shed any light on this for me please.
many thanks in advance
alex

just found that one of the brake pad pins are missing on the o/s. could this be causing the pad to somehow jam. Ok that wasn't it lol. Also forgot to add that when trying to slow down and clutching in its difficult to select a gear

forgot to say lastnight many thanks to ratty for his reply cheers matey. Anybody know where i can get a vac pump in the lytham,st.annes/blackpool area today. I do have some vacum but it doesn't feel like alot.

Come on mate, you can either get it from a 4x4 parts place (check yellow pages), a land rover dealer, or a breakers' yard.

May well be nobody has one in today, so you have to wait.

hi thanks to all that replyed managed to get one from all car spares in blackpool. Now fitted and normal service has been resumed lol. Well till the next brakedown thanks once again
