Finally managed to get rid of the squeak, some chain-lube on the dust seal behind the crank pulley. What a t**t that has been to find, many thanks to Mr Freelaner!

Finally sorted out what was squeaking after changing the timing belt, tensioner and a variety of seals and gaskets, yippee! Thanks to the amazing researched capabilities of Mr Freelaner!

I took it out to play in the snow over Houndkirk Moor, in normal conditions a pleasant but easy route, today in up to 5' snow-drifts a totally different playground.

I have ordered an OEM tensioner supplied by Bearmach and intend to fit it as soon as it arrives, as stated, too important a part to try and save money on. Lesson learned and as you say it is a fun job, third time around I hope the task will be complete for a while!! Thanks to all for the advice.

I've stood back in amazement and shock my head... After two years of ownership I'm still finding problems with my Defender that are as a result of things not being done properly in the first place.

Has any one out there had any hassle with new noisy Britpart timing belt tensioners (Defender 200tdi). I have just replaced the timing belt recently, all torqued up correctly however I (not personally) seem to be now in possession of an irritating squeak, wine, whistle, call it what you will.
