Has any one out there had any hassle with new noisy Britpart timing belt tensioners (Defender 200tdi).

I have just replaced the timing belt recently, all torqued up correctly however I (not personally) seem to be now in possession of an irritating squeak, wine, whistle, call it what you will.

Had belt done on my 200 back in August - bought everything OEM as I have heard horror stories of Britpart tensioners failing causing the belt to loosen or run out of alignment and shred itself. :eek:

IMO would always pay more for OEM stuff for such important bits. OEM tensioner was about £22, think the whole lot inc belt, seals and gaskets cost me just over £50.
 
Save yourself money and steer clear of cheap products, especially when doing the timing belt. Save a couple o' quid on a cheap tensioner and run the risk of completely knackering the enjun = a bit of a false economy. Get a decent tensioner (I went Bearmach off-of mailorder4x4) and Dayco belts and DO IT AGAIN! It was a fun job after all, eh?

I have ordered an OEM tensioner supplied by Bearmach and intend to fit it as soon as it arrives, as stated, too important a part to try and save money on.

Lesson learned and as you say it is a fun job, third time around I hope the task will be complete for a while!!

Finally managed to get rid of the squeak, some chain-lube on the dust seal behind the crank pulley. What a t**t that has been to find, many thanks to Mr Freelaner!
