Is the Thinkdiag any good ?

I am looking for a new car diagnostic tool and the Thinkdiag seems to be a very popular tool across the internet but i wanted to see if anyone here has one so that i can get some honest feedback on the code reading abilities and special functions on land rover vehicles. * I understand that it...

    Intermittent missing and engine light

Did you get this sorted ? Probably worth getting a car diagnostic tool that is capable of reading the manufacturer codes, many can only read the OBD basic codes that are only emission related. I use the thinkdiag from thinkdiag.co.uk myself as it is near OE level, it is great and can read all...

    ELM327 OBD II code reader

I've used one in the past when I had a 2003 petrol. They will read and generally clear all the generic OBDII faults thrown up by the engine but will not communicate with some of the Land Rover specific modules such as the ABS, security system, heating & ventilation etc. I ended up getting the...

    Roger G

Welcome. I had a Freelander 1 for quite a while and found it a great introduction to the mad and often frustrating world that is Land Rover.

    Hello from Kent

Welcome Josh. With regards to welding, I got some scrap metal bits from a local car breakers (door etc) so tha I coul practice on both thick and thin materials before doing it 'for real'. Thin stuff I found much more difficult as you have to be careful not to apply too much power and blow...

    L322 5HP24 gearbox misbehaving

Whilst you can just replace the torque convertor, if you see lots of what looks like glitter in the transmission oil and all over the internals of the gearbox then you may find the replacement torque convertor a short lived fix as what will have happened is that the friction material has worn...

    My 1st Range Rover

High miles on a well looked after car is not necessarily bad as you'll probably find that many parts have been replaced over time. Don't discount the TD6 diesel. It's a standard BMW lump and is a reliable unit although it does tend to be worked hard lugging around a heavy old L322. The main...

    Hello--- my introduction:-)

Welcome to the forum. With regards to the handbrake, a common problem is that the little auto adjuster that works on the rear shoes seizes up. Try taking it apart, cleaning it and then adjusting so that it's a couple of clicks off from actually causing the brake shoes to bind as a good...

    New owner as of yesterday!

Easiest would be to call your local dealer and give them the VIN. They can give you the necessary info.

    transmission failsafe

I've got a feeling that this problem can also be due to the transmission oil overheating. I have a diesel but I'm pretty sure the petrol box (although different) also has a small oil cooler for the gearbox which gets blocked and puts the box into failsafe mode when the oil gets too hot.

    icarsoft i930

I have the iCarsoft LR II tool which I originally bought for my Range Rover. Trying it out on my Freelander I 1.8 petrol, I found that it would not communicate properly with several modules including the MEMS engine management. It would however, communicate with the engine if you used it in...

    Good evening

Nowt wrong with the later gaylanders IMHO. In fact they are rumoured to be the first reliable Land Rovers for some time. Welcome.

L322 HDC Inactive message on starting

Isn't the sensor in my case. Since fitting the new battery, I don't get the error. To be honest I'm happier having fitted a new battery with the predicted cold weather due. Now just in the process of sorting winter wheels and tyres and I should be all set to deal with whatever the weather...

    L322 Auto Trans failure program

Best tool for the job is the iiD Tool from Gap Diagnostics but you are looking at £300 ish upwards depending on if you go for the Bluetooth option or not. iCarsoft have a unit around the £100 mark (think it's called the i930) which should be able to pull the codes. Either are very useful for...
