Disco 4 (LR4) Thinking of buying a D4 - talk me out of it

I don't think v8 petrol commercials exist. Or do you mean v8 diesel?

Disco 4 (LR4) Thinking of buying a D4 - talk me out of it

So looking at getting a commercial D4 (possibly with extra seats) once I have to do the VAT thing What's the best engine option? Should I do something more sensible like buy an Amarok? Is this a really stupid idea? Thank you for your opinion

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

The biggest downside to running the BMW is the lack of support from people like you. In BMW forum land the stock answer is "take it to the dealer", "take it to a guy". None of these feckers fix their own cars :(

Aye - the badge is pure idiocy - gonna replace it with a wee saltire :) Sunroof is fooked, but this is a keeper and will get it sorted eventually. Wheels are original spec, but agree that staggered alloys with more diameter and harder edges would be better - as long as they're OEM and not ned...

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

I decided that a reliable V8 with 280hp and great handling trumped the ability to drive over bumpy stuff - so got an old BMW 540i Touring instead :p Thanks for all your input guys, it's appreciated - hope I haven't committed some kind of blasphemy

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

I'm getting cold feet on this whole Rangie thing - read some LR tech guy on here saying that the P38A always has more problems then the other models. I consider myself pretty handy and fix lots of things on my cars which tend to be end of the line junkers which I keep on the road for an extra...

Feck - beginning to think about an X5 now, can't be doing with engines which blow up :(

I love this place. Okay, I think we've covered engines - how do I test whether the air suspension is all good?

Ah - again very useful. I was instinctively shying away from gassed ones - just another layer of complexity and stuff to go wrong. I'm a bit of a simpleton, so like to keep it simple.

Cheers Martyn, very useful, I kind of assumed that like most V8's they were pretty bullet proof How does HG failure usually show itself on these engines? There are so many different symptoms: Mayonnaise Dirty coolant Bubbling header tank Wet block Steam in the exhaust Overheating Which tends...

Scottish guy has no idea what he wants to buy

I don't do many miles, and I love a V8, leather, 4x4 goodness and the ability to tow stuff down a beach - so looking to buy a P38 petrol in the next week or two. Before anyone helpfully suggests that I use the search function, I already have and didn't find much. Anyone got a wee checklist I...

To Weld or Not to Weld, that is the (dumb iron) question !!

I reckon if you box it all sides you're better than stock

    Problem with my lights

Definitely relay the lamps. All those watts go through the switch gear, which after 30+ years is going to cause problems. My tratter needs full rewire, so count yourself lucky.

To Weld or Not to Weld, that is the (dumb iron) question !!

If you're going to weld that, weld it heavy. That element probably takes more stress than any other part of the chassis.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Scraping 30 years of crud off my chassis

What have you done to your Landie today.

Tub off, cleaning up the chassis. It's as good as I hoped it would be.

Just bought a Series III 88"

I'm not going to list all my paltry excuses - but I think it's fair to say I've been a bit slack on this project. Anyway, I got the tub off today. Attacked the chassis with an air chisel: Not bad for less than 17 quid. Cleaning it up like a good'un. I had grandiose plans to construct my...
