    Freelander 2 (LR2) Misfire problem

My Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 (99k miles, 1997 model) started misfiring badly and constantly on the way to work on Wednesday morning. I had to call the AA, and the guy spent quite a while trying to diagnose the problem (nothing obvious on the diagnostics and it didn't go into engine management mode)...

Diff-lock or not diff-lock? That is the question.

I am thinking of getting a Discovery II Td5 auto to replace my current Freelander Td4. My question is, should I look for one with a diff-lock, or is it not that important? I mean, Land Rover didn't think it was necessary since they deleted it after they put ETC and HDC on it. But then they...

Brakes after parking on a hill

Whenever I park my 51 plate Td4 facing downhill I seem to get a problem with the brakes. The brake pedal always seems very firm and the brakes are not very effective initially. Once I drive off and use the brakes a few times it returns to normal. Any ideas what's going on?

    Electric window kaput

The electric window has failed in one of the rear side passenger doors. I can drag the glass up until there is a 4" gap but no further. How can I get the glass up - even if only temporary for now until I can get it properly fixed. I can't leave it anywhere like this? Freelander Td4 SE 2001

    Water ingress

After the couple of days of rain we've been having I came out this morning to find a puddle on the load space cover, and the rear 4" or so of the headlining was soaking wet (I probably squeezed half a pint of water out of it by running my hand back and forth across it). Where's this likely to...

    Powerfold mirrors

OK guys, major problem with my Freelander (joke). My powerfold mirrors sometimes don't. Often they work fine, then sometimes they don't. Sometimes I can turn the switch to adjust the angle of the mirror and then move it back to the centre and then the mirrors will fold (or unfold as the case...

    VCU test (again) and castellation

I know we are all paranoid about our VCU, and I am sometimes concerned that the braking effect on full lock is too much. But how much is too much? Could we come up with a test for this? I am thinking of something like finding an empty car park and driving at 5mph (or whatever) on full lock then...

    Fit new tyres to rear?

So new tyres should always be fitted at the rear? I am assuming that this is because fitting new tyres on the front, with worn tyres on the rear, would *increase* the difference in rotation speed between the two halves of the rear prop shaft (I think I have that the right way round, with the...

    Traction Control

I haven't seen any evidence of my TC operating in 10 days of ownership. I took it onto an unsurfaced parking area with a loose, gravelly surface and tried some spirited starts (but not too agressive) with barely a hint of wheelspin and I got no TC kicking in. I guess that means there was...

    Automatic car wash

Is it safe to take the FL through a typical automatic car wash? Any FL owners who do this regularly. Any horror stories? I know you need to remove the aerial, which I haven't managed to do on mine yet but I'll be out with the pliers today.

    Newbie questions

I've had my 2001 Td4 ES for 4 days and have a couple of newbie questions. First, and I know this is a frequent cause for concern - the often discussed VCU. I can feel the resistance when driving slowly and steering hard, which is to be expected, but how much is too much? Any guidelines...

    New Freelander owner

Hi, I am a new Freelander owner (4 days) from Dorset, UK. It's a 2001 (51) Td4 ES 5-door station wagon on about 50,000 miles. But I'm not a total Land Rover newbie - I have been reading LRO etc for years and I used to own a 1983 Range Rover (some years ago now). I have a couple of newbie...
