Diff-lock or not diff-lock? That is the question.

I am thinking of getting a Discovery II Td5 auto to replace my current Freelander Td4.

My question is, should I look for one with a diff-lock, or is it not that important? I mean, Land Rover didn't think it was necessary since they deleted it after they put ETC and HDC on it. But then they re-instated it due to customer demand - so was that demand justified? I'll mainly use it on-road, with the occasional bit of greenlaning and driving across wet fields.

Is the auto a good choice, or would I be better off with the manual?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Hi Trumpet, it sounds like you'll only be doing light off-road work so I would say that the electronic aids built-in will be more than good enough for your needs.

Driving with an autobox on a TD5 makes the vehicle sooooooh much more pleasant to drive, slightly heavier on juice but a much better drive on & off-road.
