    300tdi to m57

Your best bet would be to find a donor manual BMW 5 series with the M57 and gut it for the engine, throttle pedal, ECU and harnesses. Label everything with regards to harnesses and connectors as you go along with the disassembly, and you shouldn't have too much difficulty completing the surgery...

Accident caused by parking brake engaging in error

Most likely scenario.... ...have had the pin on a retainer clip fail as a result of corrosion on the flared side of the drum backing plate on a work pick up truck. Fortunately was at slow speed, heard a groaning sound and a bit of drag as soon as I would lift off the accelerator. I reckon speed...

    td5 auto flywheel

Technically it should work - Aside the td5 having electronic control of shifting as opposed to hydraulic governor controlled, I believe the housing and core of the zf 4hp 22 transmission is the same between them. Actually love projects like what you're planning - a few years back, swapped a dead...

    8th Gear Judder

Well my understanding is that its all about keeping the engine in its rpm sweetspot so it works more efficiently and pollutes less or something along those lines. Imagine they put a 10-speed into a ford ranger pickup truck, and it always feels like that thing is in 2 minds about which gear it...

Classic Sometimes there aren't even words...

Its a shame, really Remember how we all looked forward to the return of the defender on the same lines of the recent past modern iterations of the G-wagen (not those AMG and brabus monstrosities), only for it to come out as a laptop on wheels.

    Defender Td5 no oil pressure

I'm guessing plastic fragments would be the timing chain guides. Enough pieces sucked/attached to the mesh on the oil pickup would cause the oil pump to lose suction. Its all guessing at this stage until you tear into the engine for an assessment. As suggested, start by removing the sump. All...

    Rear ended!

The The plastic trim and lights survived, so I don't expect that hit was hard enough to have bothered the chassis. I bet its the rear bumper that's buckled and that's all..... once, mine took a massive hit from a Nissan pathfinder that obliterated the rear bumper, but the replacement mounted...

    Disco 2 Rear AC install

I think the standard system is very well designed and does a good job of keeping temperatures in the cabin at comfortable levels. Mine doesn't have rear AC, and with my family of 4 onboard, it can and does get a bit too cold inside on long runs, even with outside temperatures around 35 degrees...

    Discovery 4 or 5

I agree with @lynall in saying that any other vehicle aside a land rover would be your best bet. At your price point, if you really must, you could have a Prado or final edition Shogun, and those are just as comfortable on a holiday with the added assurance of knowing that they will never break.

    Bone's V8 Disco 2 Build Log

The wood finish does match nicely with the tan interior. Have you considered the double-din mod that would update the interior of the disco with a modern android based multimedia system?

    Whats the difference

Very nice. How is your VNT actuated in relation to accelerator input - is it via vacuum or have you got a throttle position sensor installed on the injection pump to run electrics for the VNT actuator? Quite interesting setup you have there with the twin intakes on the manifold, would love to...

Wolf 300TDi, R380 transmission mounts problem.

Unfortunately with these things where you suspect steel into aluminium corrosion, there's no easy way around - its a matter of either you have great luck and it comes undone or bolt head shears off. In the future, put in some studs and hold them down with nuts instead.

Warping discs............Again and again and again

But why though?..... Is it that people find pulling on or stepping on a handbrake lever, opening a glove box by pulling on a tab, or adjusting their seats by lifting a lever are such chores that they need to be powered? I especially find the powered glovebox on Lincolns and other high-end...

Warping discs............Again and again and again

Hasn't seen any maintenance in my D2 since it left the factory in 2000, yet still doing its thing today. For me, electric brake calipers are right up there with automated manual gearboxes missing clutch pedals, any sort of electric valves or shunts on exhaust systems in the guise of emissions...
