hi all, im converting my defender td5 to automatic, would anyone know the toque settings for tightening the auto flywheel to the crank.

cheers gary

im just gathering up bits at the minute, I'm using a 300tdi auto box out of a disco 1 and a td5 auto bellhousing, flywheel and torque converter, hopefully it'll be simple enough. I converted my 90 300tdi to automatic 15 or 16 years ago and it was very straight forward. ill take pics when I'm doing it.

Technically it should work - Aside the td5 having electronic control of shifting as opposed to hydraulic governor controlled, I believe the housing and core of the zf 4hp 22 transmission is the same between them.
Actually love projects like what you're planning - a few years back, swapped a dead td5 with a 300tdi with auto transmission in a discovery 2, and got everything to work as stock, with the exception of the check engine light that figured that its original tenant is gone :p

For torque settings, generally my rule is if its holding on to something that requires a lot of disassembly to get to, then its a dab of locktite and a torque setting of FT (fekin tight)
Looking forward to your pictures.

That's from the D2 workshop manual for Td5:
Refit
....
2. Fit starter ring gear, spacer and drive plate to
crankshaft, fit new bolts and working in a
diagonal sequence tighten to 40 Nm (30 lbf.ft),
then a further 90°.

CAUTION: Do not carry out stages 1 and 2 in
one operation
