Think I have some marbles in my gearbox.

Is the marbly noise worse as the gearbox warms up? Mine does! Sounds like the same sort of thing as mine, just a horrible noise that makes you think the box is gonna implode. Mines slowly getting worse. Don't you love LRs. If you find out what it is give us a post. mines been like that...

    Rear Differential

The rear diff has a humongous backlash. i was told there was no adjustment for that and its probably a worn crown wheel and pinion. Im no expert on diffs. Its not overly noisy but it feels like its going to give over any minute. DW.

    Gearbox Noise

Ive been told the noise came from badly worn input shaft / cluster gear setup, and bellhousing bearing (input shaft big bearing) was loose in the retainer. New 3/4 synchro hub (LR genuine) fitted as well. Ill fit the box on weekend and test it out. I didn't see the wear on the cluster...

    Gearbox Noise

Yes moves in and out of gear smoothly as long as the engine rpm is fairly low, synchro is not that good, it crunches from 4th to 3rd, and from 3rd to 2nd, for a synchro box it isnt very good in the downshifting. Might be shot baulk rings? double clutching works. The box has a new...

    Gearbox Noise

Gearbox makes a fairly loud rattling sound in 4th gear on the overun. Remnants of the same in 3rd gear., gearbox has new bearings, new mainshaft and gears. 1st and 2nd seem quiet.

    C**p.....

Id check the gearbox mainshaft nut at the rear of the gearbox is tightened, spec is 100ft/lb torque.

    2.25 spice girl

If you want to get the cam to work properly you will need the heads modified, ie an upstaged head that has larger valves with featured port and polish. youll definately need extractors or better still (headers) and a double barrel or / twin carbs or a Holley or similar. If your going to cam...

    Distributor Inspection

When looking at a Land Rover points distributor, what determines a worn out distributor? What should I be looking for? Is it the movement of the cam-on the shaft? Are they repairable or should a new one be purchased if the old one is worn? :alien:

    Creaking sounds from the rear...

Yes Wayne my shorty does that. I get the odd creak and thunk sound when turning corners and the body rolls a bit. Going in and out of driveways gives a groan and thunk noise. i suspect its the chassis bushes? Ill rerplace all that when I get me parabolix sprungs.

    Traitor !

i found there is a great difference between getting it roadworthy and then having it ready for offroad use. Seems you can have dodgy axle flanges, gearbox ready to collapse, buggered this and that and you know what i mean..
