    L322 TDV8 or D3 TDV6

Hmm, Andy thanks for that bit of info... i guess a detachable winch could work as well, gives you the flexibility to have it on only when you need it. Any particular thing to look at a TDV8 Vogue SE with 180k km on the clock? Saint, my P38a was a learning curve but i'm perfectly comfortable...

    L322 TDV8 or D3 TDV6

Hi guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've moved to an area, which gets a lot of snow (40cm dump regularly, 1m occasionaly), and last 15km of the roads is bad tarmac or gravel, deep in the sticks. I also tend to travel long drives for work (Slovenia to Sweden) several times per year. My relic...

lower tail gate possible wee problem

When mine did that I cleaned the mechanism with brake cleaner and then greased it again. No problems since. You can also check if moving the mechanism on the car side of lower tailgate catches will realign it better, could be sticking because of that too.

DMF and clutch change Monday, what to check?

Grrrrr, what mileage are you on? I'm still on the first DMF with 345k km on the clock...

DMF and clutch change Monday, what to check?

Thanks for the answers! I'll change the oil in both Tbox and tranny, slave cylinder was rebuilt last year after it blew spectacularly. I'd appreciate some more debate on changing the release bearing, as it is probably wise to do that too, if I take the thing off. My clutch and DMF are both...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

New OEM steering bars, steering much better now, car drives straighter than ever. Ordered replacement plastic bits for sunroof, great deal from some company in Istanbul on fleabay. Removed the wasp nests from both fromt wings (damn buggers get in between it and the door), same for tailgate. Went...

DMF and clutch change Monday, what to check?

Hi fellas, changing the DMF, clutch and roll pins on my 1995 DT manual on Monday. Anything else that should be done when I'm in there? Oil seals? Cheers, Crt

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Ordered new oil an filter... Almost forgot how much oil goes into the stinkin' BMW Diesel, one can tell I haven't been driving it much for the past year.

    EAS & a PDA ?

I'm using that with my Range and have great success with it. I do have a PDA with a male serial DB-9 port on it (the PDA is actually a survey data collector for land surveying but is running bog standard PocketPC windows), I made a cable using the schematics from RSW's site and it just works. It...

    Intercooler hoses

There are three hoses, as you correctly found out :) if the lower hose from turbo to pipe is oily, it is either gone, or it does not seal very well. Try to wipe the oil away and check in a few days. The small round container going from rocker cover to air supply to turbo is the oil separator...

    P38 2.5 DSE Manual v Classic 300TDi/200TDi Manual

check that every button on the dash does what it is supposed to do a few times, especially the low range button (the motors are known to get stuck and fry the ECU). Check the service record, check the airbags for wear visually and the compressor strength by lowering and rising the car twice...

    suspension problem assistance required

If you don't mind a bit of soldering, you can get replacement thermal switches on thebay. Search for "EAS thermal switch". I rembember the price being around 15 squid. Much less than new (or even supposedly reconditioned) compressor.
  13. C

    suspension problem assistance required

thermal switch is soldered to the compressor's motor circuit board. It is supposed to shut off the compressor when it overheats.

    P38 tyre size

The important part of the 7J - 8J wheel size is that they don't mix well :) Previous owner has put the 255/65r16 on my 7J rims and it drove like ****, all that side to side wobbling and bouncing just gets worse. The tires did look good with all that overhang tho.
  15. C

    P38 tyre size

yep, the former for the 7J (7 inch wide) wheels, the latter [255/65/16 you mean? :)] for the 8J (8 inch wide) wheels.

    P38 tyre size

defender, 235/70 R16 actually is a standard size for us poor people with 7" wide rims - all the DT models had them AFAIK.

Single mass flywheel conversion kit - anyone tried it?

Bix, both are about three times the price i'm prepared to pay for it :) so no deal. Data, i know about that one but i was wondering if anyone had tried one of these. I guess not, i've never seen it before so it must be pretty new. I think i'll stick to a used DMF.

Single mass flywheel conversion kit - anyone tried it?

Well, after searching for a good second hand DMF i've found this one. It supposedly consists of TD5 clutch plate (some south african defenders had the same) and custom made flywheel. I'm tempted but a bit put off by the price, which is f**king steep for a piece of machined steel. So, has...

    Traction Control Question

ANR2238 is ABS only (in other words "no traction control"). You could change the modulator for a two wheel TC - one and a matching ABS/TC ECU. Was thinking about this but just couldn't justify the time/money yet.

Well, i take that back. Quick fingers, sorry :) Apparently you can get the whole package from LUK (DMF, clutch, bearing) for circa 660 GBP.
