HI All , 1st post so be gentle
I have used the HOW TO GUIDE and now need some help understanding the results

inside car
the switch to raise and lower suspension has 3 orange constant lights

Under bonnet
fuse ok
relay ok
compressor bech tested and appears fine

Thermal switch
when i run a ground to the orange wire the compressor runs but only raises the back of the car and when the wire is disconnected the pump stops and rear drops again.

Any asistance is greatly recieved as i feel i may have multiple issues.
best regards
Colin

Sounds like you have a leak on the arse end and the thermal switch has failed as compressor tried to keep up with it. You need diagnostics. If you have a laptop get the cable and software from DATATEK (member on here) so you can sort it yourself.

If you don't mind a bit of soldering, you can get replacement thermal switches on thebay. Search for "EAS thermal switch". I rembember the price being around 15 squid. Much less than new (or even supposedly reconditioned) compressor.

so shopping list

thermal switch ebay £7
laptop cable from datatek
emergency inflation kit with T's from ebay for £30 ish

cheers guys i will update when appropriate

Get it fixed and no need for inflation kit. If it has leaking bags it's as useful as tits on a Mars bar.

you know that feeling you get when you just know deep down that there may be multiple issues well i know i have those but i just dont know what they are, how many i have or how much it will end up costing..soooo coil spring conversion kit it is, i see this as a simple and effective remedy to my mulitiple issues. im assuming its an easy enough conversion. ta

Make new friends - lose new friends. Easy come - easy go.

The general view round these parts is that converting to coils is like stepping in dog mess, then putting your shoes on the table during Sunday lunch.

Wammers will be along shortly to explain that it is dangerous too. Not much of a problem if you don't mind being restricted to 50 mph but that takes away a lot of the joy of the P38.

Not only will Wammers tell him it is dangerous, he will also mention that in 2014 it may just fail the MOT that way too....

The P38 was designed to have EAS, a coil version was never mooted by Land Rover and from the outset the P38 was designed to run on air - as such if the new MOT rules are applied next year, any vehicle modified from the Factory standard will be a fail....hence seeing as though the P38 was never offered with coils, the Type Approval certificates and vehicle testing certificates from the developement and deployment of the P38 where all issued on the basis of Air Suspension, a conversion to coils will be considered a non-standard odification and as such could fail!

Overhaul the system - what you pay out on a coil kit, will mostly pay for a complete EAS overhaul!

Oh, alright then.

Converting to coils is probably the mark of a Campbell.
