Series 2A Fire engine with rear coils and leafs

Thanks for your reply........ they were certainly well fitted not bodged but I took them off leaving the attachment brackets that have been added to the chassis. I looked on Ebay and think I have found an identical set of four from a Jaguar XJ8, I won the bid at £20 so its worth the chance...

Series 2A Fire engine with rear coils and leafs

Hi I just bought a 2A and it has rear coils (with shocks inside them) as well as the standard 109 leaf springs, so thats three shocks per side. It was built this way because it has three rear water tanks totalling around 800ltrs (800kg) of water as well as the fire pump and equipment. I have...

    Hand cranking a 2.25ltr Diesel?

Personally, I would never dream of trying it but I'm curious so am asking, does anyone think it would be humanly possible to hand crank a cold 2.25ltr diesel in a series 3 and successfully start it? I think not, 'cos even with a less than fully charged battery you just can't get the cranking...

    How rare my 109?

Thats why I bought it 3 years ago, to do my chimneys and gable ends, it was cheaper than scaffolding and labour for pointing. Was going to sell it afterwards but decided it would be a nice project and might even earn some money for me, which it does. Scottish borders.......... from Cheshire...

    How rare my 109?

At last the voice of reason.............. all the previous negativity suggests I should put a match to it. And still my question unanswered, 18 HCPU on a 109 chassis built?

    Diesel 2.25 hot spots

Mine looked pretty good..... I only fitted new ones from Paddocks, cos the old ones had hairline cracks but to be honest the old ones are a better fit and are slightly curved on the head face whereas the new ones are ground flat

    Diesel 2.25 hot spots

Do you think 2.25ltr hot spots get a bad press justifiably or due to head skimming etc? After all 50% of it is captive against the block, how could it fall out?

    How rare my 109?

No, a Series HCPU is plated 1900kg rear axle loading of which 863kg is unladen, so its good for a tonne in the back

    How rare my 109?

I can't disagree with you on that but its rated at 175kg, I test it at 250kg over 360 degrees rotation spiralling to full height. I weigh 80kg and have decided to derate it to me and hand tools only in normal use. Weight of c/picker mechanism 400kg, isn't a HCPU good for 1, 000kg payload...

    How rare my 109?

You think I would go 30ft up with a fooked chassis...... no way, the chassis is solid, usual oil leaks plus hydraulic pump and 50ltr oil tank took care of that. But my question was, if its true that only 18 HCPU's were built on a 109 series, then maybe only one or two of those were adapted as...

    Diesel 2.25 hot spots

Anyone know what the two holes and slight flat area are for on the hotspot at the locating dowel side? My best guess is the two holes allow some hot gases to scour the gap between it and the cylinder head?

Is a series suitable as a first car?

Bought my son a 1976 2.25 petrol series 88 when he passed his test 18 years ago, insurance was dead cheap even as a 17 year old, his mates were running around in ford fiesters, Peugeot 206 etc, all long sjnce rusted away but my son still has his series though not for everyday use nowadays...
