Question, how rare is my 109?

Its a 1983 109, then factor in it's got a HCPU rear end, only 18 made I'm lead to believe before the new defender..... but now of those 18, mine is fitted with a Spencer HM28 "Cherry Picker" for sale to Norweb for overhead line working.

What do you think?

Thanks....bought it 3 years ago as a non mover..... running but gearbox broken, used it to repair my roof and was going to sell it but since restored it, new g/box and lots of new parts.
Not many around I think?

No, I love it.... yes its a dog to drive, 2.25 diesel with an all up weight of 2460kg, gentle slopes get me down to second gear. Rallied it a few times at steam fairs.....
Just wondering how rare?

There's hundreds of "modified series/fenders" out there. Chances are the Hicap is a fender one that's been fitted by a previous owner. & with the cherry picker on it. Chassis is probably fooked as well.

I'd get shot if I was you....

You think I would go 30ft up with a fooked chassis...... no way, the chassis is solid, usual oil leaks plus hydraulic pump and 50ltr oil tank took care of that.

But my question was, if its true that only 18 HCPU's were built on a 109 series, then maybe only one or two of those were adapted as c/pickers, maybe two or three? And no it wasnt a series/ fender cut and shut, built for Norweb 1983 and never modified since.

solid and stressed are two different things

you put that much weight on the back constantly and somethings going to bend/become stressed, I'd bet you theres a high percentage of stress fractures around the cranes mounting points and over the rear axle

I can't disagree with you on that but its rated at 175kg, I test it at 250kg over 360 degrees rotation spiralling to full height. I weigh 80kg and have decided to derate it to me and hand tools only in normal use.
Weight of c/picker mechanism 400kg, isn't a HCPU good for 1, 000kg payload?

Tested twice a year under Lola regulations by the way.
