Idle, hesitation, poor performanc - tech bulletin

I think this fault explains why some owners have difficulty in curing those symptoms. In some cases £1000s have been spent changing everything from HP pump to injectors, to ecu to little or no avail. I wonder whether the 75 & ZT suffer from the same problem as every so often one is...

    TD4 idling roughly

See my new thread re tech bulletin 00052 before ripping out the injectors. The parts cured a recent TD4 with those symptoms. (Maf & Mafam was tried first but didn't help) Ron

Idle, hesitation, poor performanc - tech bulletin

Apologies if this is old news, but I have come across a LR Tech bulletin 00052 dated April 2007. The faults must therefore have been occuring well prior to this. This relates to complaints of: hesitation, poor performance, poor idle, poor starting The cause is corroded contacts at the...

    TD4 Diesel EGR Bypass Valve

A lot of us with the same engine in Rover 75s and ZTs fit these, with equally good results, especially if tuned (with a Synergy of course). Ron

    Freelander smokin again

Check that the turbo's variable nozzle actuator and linkage is not stiff or jammed. I've heard of the actuator having to be changed (though some dealers have been known to replace the turbo instead only to find it was still the same!!) Finally, check for splits in the intercooler hoses and...

    TD4 Rough Running

The electric pumps won't be affecting the rough running. If its still bad with the maf disconnected (Ebay mafs are not good) with or without Synergy connected, then possibly have the injectors serviced as there is not really much else than would cause these symptoms. Lynx Diesels - Diesel...

    To Maf or Not Maff

You don't need to change it or fit a mafam because its only used to control the egr valve on the L series Freelanders. So if its playing up, just disable the egr valve by disconnecting the thin vacuum pipe from the actuator capsule. You should notice improved low speed pickup. Ron

    looking for ECU reader

Try Jayson at Chippeduk in Birmingham, or for a plug-in solution, my Synergy 2 works well and will also compensate for maf deterioration. Ron

    Freelander diesel no power

The hoses to/from the intercooler tend to split and this is a common cause of a big power loss. However you also need to check the folowing: 1) Brake lights not working or stuck on (ecu cuts fuel when you brake) 2) Wire from no1 injector damaged. 3) Egr valve leaking. (disable it by removing the...

    Freely and Roverron

Hi Peter, I'm a few miles north or Morpeth and can fit a Synergy 2 for you if you book in advance. (no charge for fitting) Ron

    freelander diesel starting problems

Other causes of poor hot starting are injector leakback and intank fuel pump failiure. You can test for injector leakback quite easily. The details are on my website here: 75ZT HOME (scroll down a bit to injector issues) Its quite possible that a Y reg Td4 will need the injectors servicing...

    TD4 Flat as!

Never in over 1200 sales has a Synergy ever affected the ecu. Its no more possible for it to do this than a faulty sensor. Eg. if a sensor went short circuit then it may cause a 'surge' within the ecu which could affect it. But the engine would probably not run at all and in any case the ecu...

    Turbo Question

That explains it. The mafam won't boost the torque above what is supposed to be there with a good maf. A Synergy 1 or 2 will and there will be no mistaking the effect the turbo has. Ron

    Turbo Question

I assume you all mean a Synergy, not a Mafam MF75p? I would have expected setting 3, 6, 9 7 10 to produce quite a noticeable improvement in turbo build up from just over 1500rpm. But even on the lighter 75 & ZT the turbo is still fairly progressive compared to say, my X-type (2L Mondeo...

02 TD4 Pulsing under Light Throttle.

I'm glad the new one is working. I was also about to suggest disconnecting the maf sensor in case this was a bit dodgy. Ron

    power loss on 1998 diesel

Check for splits in the intercooler hoses. These are common on older L series engines and boost pressure escapes. This could be seen as a faulty map sensor since it will read the lower pressure which is not what the ecu is expecting. Also check for chafing of the wire from no1 injector, and...

    Freelander Tuning Advice

I have a lot of happy Td4 owners using my Tu3 and Synergy. Check out my Ebay feedback for some recent comments . eBay UK Shop - ROVERRON TUNING: Rover 75 MG ZT 116 131, Freelander TD4 2000 The EGR bypass does more than just disconnecting it. It removes the 40% obstruction to the airflow...

    Td4 Egr Bypass Pipes

A hint - moi! Ron (Not many 75/ZT ownrs have much smoke, - mainly the ones with a Tu3 or Synery and a remap)

    Td4 Egr Bypass Pipes

Photo of the egr pipe. As you can see, a lot of work goes into making them. 75/Zt owners who have been fitting them this wekend have all said the improvement is noticeable, wiht more torque and reduced or eliminated smoke with a Tu3 or Synergy on max. Ron
