    VCU Test

Oh I've read your posts on the subject - every thread involves you kicking off like some grumpy old sod. Have you ever been wrong ..... about anything?

    VCU Test

Yes, and the tests suggested throughout the forum (one wheel up or tippex) are being challenged by Bell Engineering and I'm looking for people's thoughts. Is that such a ****in inconvenience?

    VCU Test

Bell Engineering, who I believe to be specialists in all things transmission related, take the following view "It has been reported*on some*internet sites*that to test the VCU if you* jack the one back wheel of your Freelander without the handbrake applied you should be able to turn the rear...

    Diff Replaced

A replacement ( not new) diff has been fitted to my 2003 TD4. I now get a whinning noise, which gets louder at higher speed, along with a droaning, pulsating, noise. Any thoughts? Dodgy diff? VCU? Didn't get these noises before - although this is better than the stench of diff oil I was...

    Diff Gone

So it's going in for a replacement diff on Wednesday. New tyres were swapped to back, but the horrible smell of diff oil still persists. Since the original flare up, steering feels tighter, but the car doesn't feel as "grippy" as it did before - is this because of the useless diff or could...

    Diff Gone

Yeah - I was afraid of that, just read the symptoms section of the bell engineering website.

    Diff Gone

So here's the update. Freebie recovered to the garage who had fitted tyres. Based on some of the excellent advice on here, I asked for the tyres to be swapped - front to back, and for the diff to be topped up with oil. There was no outward sign of damage to the diff. After getting the car...

    Diff Gone

I was going to send him the link to this thread - maybe not now ;-) I'm pretty stuck now. We took two cars on the road to Aviemore, but now the Freebie has had to be recovered back home - I needed two cars because I'm meeting up with folk who are arriving by train later this week. I only got the...

    Diff Gone

My TD4 2003 was on for a service and MOT last week. 2 new tyres were fitted to the front - it was my local independent who has been excellent. Had the debate about putting the tyres on the back - he said it wasn't required and they would be fine on the front. First real run with it today -...

    Dreaded Window Regulator

Driver side rear door has gone - despite being new only 18 months ago. I've taken it out and stripped it - barr a slight kink in the cable, everything looks intact - looks like the cable has just slipped off the wheel and got tangled. Does anyone think it should go back ok? - time caught up...

TD4 Turns over but fails to start.

Meant to mention - there was a test that the garage performed on the injectors where they checked fuel that leaked back into the fuel system. Worth checking before going down fule pump route. If it struggles to start when hot, you can rule out glow plugs. New injectors are £140 each - I got...

TD4 Turns over but fails to start.

For the oil problem - was the crankcase filter replaced? I had a similar starting problem last week. battery was fine - it turned out to be 2 injectors that were shot. The recover guy originally suggested glow plugs - but the specialist shot this theory down.

think i need a new alternator

How do you know when it's the battery or the alternator? I'm having starting problems - using a battery pack, I get started, but don't want to shell out for a new battery if it's the alternator. If the battery is reading below 12v without the engine running - can I assume it's the battery...

    The dreaded "Rear Window" fault..

It's your Hippo's way of punishing you for being a Hearts fan. The car is rejecting you as it's new owner :D

    Interior courtesy light - Front

It's the connectors that I'm struggling to find - the wire feeds into a connectors which forms a clip with top and bottom - that then feeds in a plastic housing which the unit then slots into.

    Interior courtesy light - Front

Over the winter, I had a leak. Thought it was the sunroof, but it transpires the bolt that secures the arial had come slack - presumably through brushing snow off the roof every morning and moving the arial. The water ended up coming through the front courtesy light - connectors corroded and the...

Any point fixing the f**ked sunroof?

I thought I had a leaking sunroof - water was coming through the front interior light console. Turns out it it was the arial - the underside nut had become slack ( probably movement from brushing snow off the roof a few months ago) and was letting water in just behind the sunroof motor...

    New Gearbox

TD4 2003 100k Finally got around to having someone look at the problem I've been having selecting reverse gear ( 5 or six attempts before it allows you to go backwards). Had a new clutch 3000 miles ago , linkage etc has been checked and the general consensus is that the gearbox needs...

    Bleeding Td4 Clutch

I'm having problems selecting reverse - all other gears are fine - could bleeding the clutch be the answer?
