Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

Update! It was the alternator. It had failed and caused a dead short. This destroyed the battery also. After replacing both, she's running better than ever. Thanks for all the help everyone :-)

Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

It seems so, I've had a look on a few alternator threads on here and people are suggesting the FL1 fuselink is for the alternator?

Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

Right OK, I've put the 150a (FL1) back in and the short is back. I've then removed every other fuse one at a time but the short stays. FL1 is marked ALT on the inside of the lid. Is there anything else after these fuses I should try?

Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

Yeah. The belt is fine. I cant understand the fuse not popping under a dead short? Perhaps a dodgy fuse also?

Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

Done exactly this, the short goes with the 150a alternator fuse link removed. Is it simply just a knackered alternator? and why is the fuse not blown?

Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

It smelled quite bad but couldn't locate where it was coming from. I'll have a good look around in the morning. Thought it was going too well, not broken down for months :-(

Complete loss of electrical power (TD5)

Evening all, Earlier today i noticed a burning smell, a minute or so later the 3 amigos came on, then the battery light, then everything. My power steering stopped working and I came to a halt. I've since had zero electrical power. I tried jumping her but got a big flash of sparks when...

Front Offside Steering - Is something missing?

No, i assume its something to do with left hand drive models that would use it and leave the other side empty. Mines certainly the same anyway.

    Suspension lift light

It takes seconds with the right machine. The D2 was available with either coils or airbags so the option/setting for both is already there, you pretty much just tick the coil spring box.

had to push disco away from asda fuel pump

I've had a similar thing happen to me a few times, and the most recent time was at my local Asda. Got me thinking now...

    Performance Mod

Mine eats too much money just to stay on the road, let alone do it faster!

    Suspension lift light

You need to have it plugged in to a diagnostic machine. The car needs to be told it is not on airbags anymore then the switch becomes useless and the compressor (if still there) will stop intermittently trying to pump them up. Try your local garage, mine charged me £20 to do this and also read...

About to buy a disco 2 would be lifted slightly can I still tow a caravan?

My D2 sits about 3" higher than standard currently(lifted and slightly larger tyres) and is fine towing my caravan. I shall be fitting larger tyres soon leaving it too high. I have a drop plate ready to fit when needed. To do this you will need to check if the manufacturer of your tow bar...

    Steering play u/v joint

UJ's are either in good working order, or f****d. There is no in-between. Shouldnt be expensive to fix ( prop shaft UJ's are are about £12, so cant inmagine the steering one to be much more?) I know only too well how a wandering disco feels, it will only be money well spent!

Grinding whirring noise when in gear??

Is it possible that something, when being forced to move can give the gringing/whirring noise, but under its own steam just free wheeling not do it? Checked the prop shaft today and its perfect

Grinding whirring noise when in gear??

Still none the wiser yet. I dropped the oil in the transfer box and it was in nice condition ( its maybe about 6 months since a full swap although has a slight leak and drinks maybe a quarter of a litre every few months) there was also nothing stuck to the magnet other than a slight paste which...
