Ok so I am about to purchase my very first disco 2

I will probably lifter as will be doing some green laneing and off road

I have a caravan and I'm wondering can you lift the 4x4 and still tow? If so what's the maximum recommend lift? How does this affect the stability of the caravan?

Will the standard tow bar be sufficient or will I need to buy one that is adjustable/lower?

I can't see me lifting it any more than 30/40mm

Thanks in advance

Do you need to lift, for off road you can raise the back end 1" roughly

If you do I would use a drop plate, if a caravan is slightly up it becomes unstable due to air underneath.

I don't really know if a lift kit would be needed

What's the biggest tyres that can fit on standard? Would that give a lift in itself? If so then I will just changed the springs shocks etc

Simple really, fit bigger tyres on caravan, with taller springs and extended shocks.

Search YouTube for 'gall boys Australia'

All will become very clear.

And a snorkel for your cassette toilet! :)

I would think an adjustable tow bar / drop plate would cope easily with the small lift you suggest. My standard D2 on air suspension has genuine LR multi height towbar. Its tow ball is mounted on the 2nd lowest height and allows the van to sit level. The very lowest is about 1 1/2 - 2" below that so would in theory cope with the lift you suggest.

That's the answer I wanted thank you

My D2 sits about 3" higher than standard currently(lifted and slightly larger tyres) and is fine towing my caravan. I shall be fitting larger tyres soon leaving it too high. I have a drop plate ready to fit when needed. To do this you will need to check if the manufacturer of your tow bar supports the use of a drop plate as if they dont (or dont mention it in the manufacturers instructions), they are no longer legal. Most big names are ok and i believe the standard factory tow bar on the D2 is ok but worth double checking! If on an SLS model, make sure the airbags don't loose air when the engine is turned off, if they do then replace them. Mine had a slight leak, after a couple of journeys the weight of the caravan was too much for the compressor to keep the bags inflated and i had to drive 15 miles bottomed out! If treated as a serviceable item and replaced as and when they should be then the airbags are great.
