    Braking Help

CharlesY - Good points, Should have remembered to say that the LR set up includes an accumulator tank which sits at the front of the engine bay on the manifold side of the engine. I should say that the best bet would be to find a vacuum pump like the one on Doobie's lump (assuming that it...

    The final word on springs

Rusty Rhino; To answer your points (as best I can): 1) A leaf spring is designed to work at 90 degrees to the plane of axle travel. The angle at which the spring sits is dictated by spring length and shackle/hanger length. Hence if you put longer springs or shackles on (like 1 ton...

    Series Killer

Hi there, New to the forum, not so new to Landrovers. Used to mess around with them as an excuse to avoid working any years ago. As a result I know a bit about Series LRs and sod all about anything with funny wiggly springs at the corners.... Interested to hear from anyone in West Yorks...

    Need More Brake Help

Steve2286w - looks like I put my last post on the wrong thread. The idea would work but you need a butterfly valve to generate the vacuum. It might be possible to mod one off a 21/4 or 2.5NA diesel but clearance over the inlet manifold on a 4203 might be a problem.

If you're off to the breakers might be worth looking out for a dead LDV 350 or 400 with the Rover engine. Fittings should be the same and there are plenty of dead ones around.

    Braking Help

Forgot to mention - you could try these people for out of production engine parts - they claim to stock a range of parts for discontinued engines so you never know: Perkins Engines, parts, servicing and repairs in Great Britain - Diperk

    Braking Help

Hmm - I've had a few 4203 engined LR's and I can honestly say I can't remeber the servo set up - I don't think that any of them went fast enough for the brakes to be an issue. As for vacuum pumps very few 4203s are likely to have them as most of these engines came out of stationary generators...

    How To ?

Is it an 88 or a 109? If it's 88 you shouldn't need a hole if it's 109 you probably will - unless it's an underseat fuel tank with a side exit exhaust. Simple answer is if the exhaust points out the back you need a hole; and you always need brackets unless they're still on there from the...

    The final word on springs

Hmm, dunno about the relative weights. It's a long time since I sprung an airportable but I seem to recall that the fronts were only 7 leaf as opposed to 9 on a std spring; then again that might be the alzheimers speaking.... As for second hand springs I've never been a fan but needs must...

Got the Series 3 running, but can only get 40mph!

I once had 2.6 litre station wagon which caught fire causing thousands of pounds worth of improvements. Always found the 2.6 to be a horribly thirsty and murderously unreliable engine. If it is a 1 ton (look at the spring shackles - the 1 ton chassis had a bar across the centre of the...

    The final word on springs

Interesting thread. Of the dozens of Series LRs I have resprung I got most of them to sit square but as with all elderly rovers it only works if you do it properly. Here are a few thoughts based on my own experience: 1) Always fit the right springs: sticking 109 rears on an 88 for a...
