I went through this a couple of years ago - recon was unreliable so ended up with a Turners head - now done an additional 160,000km and no problems. Spend the money well once not twice on a recon and then a replacement. Gary www.tyclyd.com

Excellent - thanks, I would say that 18 is the closest fit (its deffo a coolant pipe no PAS) but any idea where the free end of 18 would fit, I am looking for the T section the larger bore pipe to confirm?

I wonder if someone can help please – I was under my 156,000 mile RHD 2005 TD5 90 Defender yesterday doing another job and noticed that one of the small bore coolant pipes had been rubbing on the inner edge of the LHS forward chassis rail and had a significant score / wear mark and left...

Did think about that but reaming out will mean that even my M8s will be to small and access fpor a normal M6 long bolt is not possible as you cannot get into the middle of the cross member...

Thanks I have a rivnut tool and a whole range of sizes but all too small for the haxagional holes in the rear crossmember... so i am a bit stuck?

Thanks - I will check that out. Service intervals have been as per the book but I do change the engine oil and rotary filter every 6000 in-between the main service intervals - for the sake of £40 its been worth it
