    110 300 tdi or td5 ?

Of course not. That's not the scenario of this or other similar threads. The OP is talking about a vehicle for a specific trip in Australia where - we're assuming - he's planning on needing to fix things himself, probably away from support resources such as breakdown firms. And if it's not...

    Cam Belt 1997 90 300 TDI (snapped)

Indeed, why are you even thinking of paying them any money? A garage did some work on your car, screwed it up, admitted it was their fault (astonishing) and now want to charge you for fixing it? If it were me, I'd be getting them to pay for an LR franchise to do the work.

    110 300 tdi or td5 ?

Personally, I don't think there's any simple answer to this question. Lots of people will (and have!) said that the 300tdi is 'easier to fix' but that depends on the fault. Yes, the TD5 might get a fault related to the ECU but replacing the ECU takes about 2 minutes and some electrical faults...

My Invention - Built out of necessity – something we can all use

To be honest, I'd ditch the idea of covering the lock. The way I see it, nothing is going to make a really good seal without either being a) too expensive to manufacture, b) too fiddly for everyday use or c) in danger of damaging the paintwork. Let's face it, there are 2 other door locks that...

    the new one - opinions

Reducing the clearance IS a concern for me but then so is having no protection at all. Don't really want to do major surgery and these types that I've poked at in car parks seem pretty solid without dangling too much in the wind.

    Locking wheel nut key

Why not just pop along to your nearest friendly tyre-change place? They have it off in seconds either with the correct key or an appropriate tool and should be able to advise on what the key is, even if they haven't got it. I'd really be looking to find the right key as presumably you've got...

    the new one - opinions

I'm in a similar situation with my 110. I've got three main targets: 1) some additional lighting, 2) a snorkel and 3) decent rock sliders/side steps. You've already got 3) by the looks of things - can anyone tell who sells this type, they're exactly the ones I want! 1) I'm only looking at a...

    using water

I'd second CharlesY's response, is it remotely possible that what you're seeing is just loss through overfilling in the first place? Is this a new problem or has it always done it? At the end of the day, if it really is 'using' the water then it must be going somewhere and there will be...

    TD5 breakdown tip...

A quick update on this... Went down to Cornwall to see the outlaws at the weekend and bugger me if the same fault didn't appear! I also had a couple of momentary - and I do mean fractions of a second - glitches while driving where the engine management light came on and the engine 'coughed'...

    Some questions about the Defender

Also bear in mind that I believe conversion from RHD to LHD isn't that massive a job and would certainly cost less to convert a UK RHD than the LHD Portugal cost of the vehicle alone. You can also pick up LHD vehicles here in the UK. Jon

    Indicator Stalk

Though, of course, one only indicates left in this manner when facing a police officer on point duty... turning left for other drivers uses your right hand and an effete twirling motion... (in the UK, I should add) (scuttles off and hides)... Jon

    TD5 breakdown tip...

Was mortified on Friday night to find myself stuck outside Halfords with my new 110 refusing to start. I'd driven around the area visiting a client and was wasting some time in H so I could legitimately go straight to the pub when I got home rather than sit down and be trapped by emails. Came...

    Tool kit must have's

Are you talking about the garage stuff or stuff to carry around with you? What I'm planning to do is treat myself to a few really decent kits (sockets, screwdrivers, etc.) for the garage then collect together all the old odds and sods of same to build a kit for the Landy. I'll certainly second...

    cherry bomb

Too many years ago to count I was driving down the M1 in my AH Sprite and the exhaust manifold snapped just above the downpipe. Now THAT was loud :) Jon

    cherry bomb

If anyone actually cares about the law regarding exhaust noise I would suggest you check with a police officer or other appropriate information service before doing the mod. The laws on exhaust noise have changed recently and a quick scan around t'net suggests that some - or all - of the...

    Fitting a Snorkel

Only a request that you give me a blow-by-blow account of it to help when I fit mine! I'd be particularly interested in how you think the seals are through the body and onto the existing hosework. Jon

    What are them pipes there??

Hmmm... (eyes old vacuum cleaner hose & roll of gaffer tape...) J
