    Just a thought. Surely you need to heat the surround to expand the surround and freeze the plug to reduce the size of the plug. or have I got it wrong?

    Many thanks Ratty, I think you may have nailed the problem. When I think about it, on both occasions that it would not start, I had removed the ignition key.so your suggestion is a likely answer. Thanks, Dave
