2001 Disco TD5 Auto finally bites the dust...

I know this post is technically cheating the 50+ posts rule, but please bear with me, it's because I want my dad's old TD5 to go to a good home where it's organs will be best used. The chassis has rusted out. which is why it'll be uneconomical to repair. Add this to the fact that his eyesight...

Disco 2 Three Amigos refuse to die

As I understand it, OBD and OBD2 are concerned with engine emissions and control data; most of the data flying around between the several 'computers' on a Disco uses CANbus protocol, and that's why a simple OBD scanner won't help with ABS (that's the SLABS module). As said before, a good read of...

    Td5 using excessive fuel

I presume you have also renewed the air filter at the recommended interval? (I am asking the forum to comment on the next statement) A clogged or restrictive air cleaner would depress the manifold (absolute) pressure. Combine this with a faulty or slow reacting MAP sensor may cause...

Diagnostic tools for Landy - I am confused.

I can answer that one myself....almost I made enquiries about the iCarsoft LR11...it will if you buy the Jaguar/Land Rover version, and it will (the supplier claims) read all the modules from all models. It will also work as a standard OBD2 reader on other makes of car but limited to engine and...

Diagnostic tools for Landy - I am confused.

Would anyone kindly enlighten me to the reason why some diagnostic tools will work properly on Land Rovers, and others won't. In particular I have a Hawkeye tool specified for the Defender TD5, why won't it work properly on the Disco V8, nor read or communicate with the body control unit of the...

Disco 2 2001 Disco TD5(manual). ABS, ETC, descent, and brake lamps ON

The cynical voice in my head was spot-on. Garage now say they didn't change the ABS sensor because they found that the hub bearings were 'shot'...so they are going to charge him 'a bit more' for the hub. Work should be finished tonight. Oooh, I can't wait for the next instalment.

Disco 2 2001 Disco TD5(manual). ABS, ETC, descent, and brake lamps ON

Update: Landy garage (not to be named yet, to give them a chance to redeem) charged mate over £400 to 'change ABS sensor - rear left'....but didn't. An hour after leaving the premises those pesky 3 Amigos were back. A cursory inspection revealed that the sensor had not been changed. Mate...

Helping Hawkeye (h)offered for TD5 Defender

I have a TD5 Hawkeye that I am willing to make available to a local member in need, the usual tea and cake bounty applies. I am not willing to post it, but if you're local to High Wycombe and need a helping hand maybe I can help. Sadly I have to work for a living, take the dog for walks, keep...

Please help Discovery 2 on the verge of extinction

Can't help you with posting an OBD diagram, my IT skills aren't up to that, but see previous post from me for info on the power and data pins of the OBD socket. Your electrical geezer should be able to make sense of that. Again, I doubt that a broken ECU wire is to blame, though it seems that to...

Please help Discovery 2 on the verge of extinction

In your first post you said... From that I read that the car had no warning lights before it went into the garage, and those pesky Amigos lit when it came back (and not before). As you don't have a fault code reader I assume this was done by the same garage. @sierrafery asked you some...

    Disco 2 air compressor stopped

Not necessarily. Check you have power (voltage) between each of the two sockets you just bridged (in turn) and vehicle earth. 12v = motor/compressor unit fault, 0v = fuse failure or other reason.

Please help Discovery 2 on the verge of extinction

A simple check measuring the resistance of each ABS sensor from the connector C0505 on the SLABS unit (under the glovebox, passenger side) can be done in 10 minutes, and avoids getting filthy! Check the values against the RAVE documentation. A damaged electrical connection reading may help you...

    3 amigo.. the next step

Just to add that the readings you quoted as ohms were, in fact, kilohms. Not important in this case, because the photos corrected you. In my very limited experience of this problem I read that ANY evidence of fluid around the SVS(?) switches will cause them to fail in the short term. I also read...

Series rear crossmember - Leeds to Uxbridge!

Daughter travelling from Headingley area to High Wycombe around 22nd Feb 2019 in a 3 door Fiesta. Not sure the size of a Series crossmember, but she'll be able to fold down the back seat. To quote her "you'll need to get it to me in the evening before I travel south". I won't let her take it if...

Standing offer - High Wycombe to Blackpool via M40/M6, and return

I regularly (if you call 4 times a year regular) travel this route, usually in a small van with roof rack. I will take Landy stuff along this route, charging only for the diversion from my route. Usual travel times are 7pm - 11pm, going north on Thursday nights, returning south on Sunday or...

    Cheap Courier To Northern Ireland

I suppose it depends on what you want shifting. Daughter's bf studies in Leeds, lives near Omagh. He sometimes drives (small hatchback), sometimes flies Belfast Intl or Londonderry. It all depends on whether it fits in with both's travel plans and schedules. Have you considered approaching the...

Disco 2 2001 Disco TD5(manual). ABS, ETC, descent, and brake lamps ON

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. Owner of Disco II took it to garage on Thursday. He asked them to read the codes and note them, then clear them. Eventually this was done, and the diagnosis was that the rear left ABS sensor was duff. Interesting that the resistance reading from that...

Disco 2 Please educate me on Disco 2 air suspension

Thanks all contributors, I'll advise friend of your recommendations as Disco is 15 years old and on the original air bags.

Disco 2 2001 Disco TD5(manual). ABS, ETC, descent, and brake lamps ON

Update as promised. Today I removed and inspected the ABS modulator switches, and the associated connection flange bolted very tightly to the side of the modulator. Temporarily reconnected, I measured the resistance between the connector pins (where the yellow&green and black wires go?). I got...
