Td5 using excessive fuel

I presume you have also renewed the air filter at the recommended interval?
(I am asking the forum to comment on the next statement) A clogged or restrictive air cleaner would depress the manifold (absolute) pressure. Combine this with a faulty or slow reacting MAP sensor may cause overfuelling/excess consumption.

Since replaced mpg has gone down and performance has gone up
Hmm, Stanley, mpg down isn't the same as fuel consumption down...what exactly did you mean?

Obviously I got my worms muxed ip! Yes, the number of miles done to a gallon went up, as you saw 28.5 to a gallon in an auto TD5 is pretty good, and performance has improved too. A more efficient engine gives both better performance and does more miles for a set amount of fuel.
If this thread is still live tomorrow I may find the energy to look at the new MAF and tell you all the make. All I know is that i was hugely possed if at the garage for charging me £127 Plus vat for it and then having the neck to charge for the ten seconds it took to fit it. I checked on the internet and I could have/should have bought the same one elsewhere, far cheaper. Have had other issues with this bunch so not going back there. There comes a horrible moment where trust changes to mistrust.

A guy I know who races Land Rovers reckons that each truck responds differently to each MAF. Sounds weird, but they try a load of different MAFs until they get the best one for the truck. Scientifically that ought to be bonkers but then we all know electric components can be way different although supposedly manufactured to the same tolerances. Perhaps a new thread could be started on this "Name your fave MAF"?
