Has anyone fitted a new head gasket and used a product such as 'Hylomar Blue' (high performance, non-setting gasket and jointing compound) on either an MLS or Elastomer gasket to help seal between the HG and the block & the head itself? Views appreciated.....

That's why I'm confused. I assume the fan control unit on 1 1.8 2005 FL1 is the bulky heatsink type unit on the near of the radiator fans (this has been replaced and the same error code is present). As both fans appear to work as designed, then can't see/understand the Fan 1 Control circuit...

Next issue identified as error code P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit - open circuit. OK so, what is an open circuit, is it a bad earth, if so where is Fan 1 control circuit earthed? If it's not a bad earth, what can it be? Both fans do work and with Hawkeye, can be turned on & off thru...

So the expansion tank has the coolant level half way between min & max. Run engine at tick over for 10 minutes and coolant level rises, up to the welded join in the expansion tank. The by-pass thermostat is hot on the top side, but cold on the bottom, therefore the thermostat not opened...

Not on the UK facelift 1.8 petrol models (2005). There is no coolant temperature sensor on the inlet manifold (that I recall)..... MEK000030 is the blue coolant temperature sensor (which is actually black nowadays) and a brown coolant temperature sensor (MEK100160) both sensor require the seal...

Not on the facelift models. There is just one coolant temperature sensor

Or at least say what the differences are and the impact fitting the other one would create if swapped. They both have the same temperature range and the size / thread is supposedly the same

Thanks for the link. Going with the 'blue' (which is actually now black in colour) as the current one fitted is black, although impossible to say if this hasn't been changed before and whether the original was blue or brown. Not sure what the difference is between the two or why JLR can't tell...
