    TD4 Turbo failure

Take off the turbo hoses and intercooler and clean it all out. The oil will still be circulating in there and in the exhaust, soaked up by the baffles. The hotter you can get the exhaust the better it will burn but as for the intercooler and pipes, Ideally it needs to be removed and cleaned.

    Thanks

Thanks for all of your input with my various questions over the last couple of months. I have now sold the Hippo tonight. Regrettably on my part but the wife didn't want it and I have an Audi Quattro. It's local ish so still may see it about. So until my next LR, thank you and goodnight...

pulling my hair out. smokey freelander

Mine is more than that. Peak 18.8 and dropped to 17 ish. Goes over 14 very easily. I'd get all off the hoses off and checked, check the vacuum hose that runs from the vac reservoir to the solenoid. Check the turbo vent filter has one end free to the atmosphere. Dan

pulling my hair out. smokey freelander

There is a turbo hose off the turbo too, has that been checked for splits or collapse internally? You can see the actuator rod from drivers side wheel arch. Put wheels in full left lock look through a rear side of the arch with a torch. You will see the solenoid valve then the top of the rod...

pulling my hair out. smokey freelander

Turbo boost actuator is under neath the car. Under the driver foot well area. It's attached to the turbo. If you're ever near Ampleforth, I have an obd tool to check boost pressure. My Td4 spikes to 18.8psi then drops to 17psi in third gear on beacon bank. Just message me on here if you want to...

    Td4 another loss of power/MIL Q!

Nope, was only 23 'up north' yesterday. Brakes didn't squeal yesterday at all. Going out later this afternoon up and down some steep hills, clay bank etc. So will see if they do it then. Yes it's a big sigh of relief when it's fixed. It was the wife who bought the Hippo but now she doesn't...

    Doesnt Sound Good

When I got mine it started to make a grinding as soon as setting off. Garage said it was the brakes binding on the rear. I wasn't convinced. I removed the prop and the noise has stopped. It's the rear prop bearing on mine that is noisy when spun. The front one made no noise at all. The noise in...

    Td4 another loss of power/MIL Q!

Mine happens from about 20mph to 10mph then it stops. Really high pitched tone. However, it hasn't done it today so maybe it was something to do with the heat we had yesterday?

    Td4 Boost pressure

Just to clarify, My Hippo is running 100% better now that the manifold has been replaced. The boost pressure is now peaking at 18.8PSI and dropping to 17.5psi. I hope this helps others. The app I used was Torque on an Android phone. Dan

Traction controll and Hill desecent amber lights on

If the TC is like most other cars, then its uses the ABS sensors for wheel speed readings. Check all the sensors and in correctly. On an Audi S4 I had once, there was corrosion on the ABS ring which caused the ABS to kick in randomly. Possibly the same here?

    Freelander Faults poll

Checked them, all ok. I don't have mass of black smoke under load but there is some. Lack of power is due to turbo only boosting 8.8psi. Possibly the MAP sensor but no DTC relating directly to it. Only 1E30 dtc.
