300 tdi -loads of smoke at 2500rpm

I know, that's my own thoughts that it's related to the belt snapping or replacement. It's a mate that's doing the job and we have had the rocker cover off several times and he has checked the valve clearances a few times now. It's strange how at the different revs the smoke is so different...

300 tdi -loads of smoke at 2500rpm

I am just back home after being away most of the past 3-4 weeks. I started it up and fires into life instantly, runs smooth so assume that is after the fuel pump timing being set. 2500rpm loads of smoke and hold it at 3500rpm and literally no smoke. I took the intercooler pipe off at the turbo...

300 tdi -loads of smoke at 2500rpm

Apologies, yes it was the pushrods!! It starts no bother but for maybe 10-15 seconds it's a bit rough then takes revs and is smooth. At idle smoke is not too bad, revs held steady at 2500rpm and it's chronic but full revs there is no smoke

300 tdi -loads of smoke at 2500rpm

If I describe a sequence of events I would appreciate some opinions. Disco 1 with 300tdi snapped the timing belt. Belt was replaced after which lots of smoke. Then checked and found conrods bent so replaced them with new. Still lots of smoke . Got a new old stock never fitted cylinder head so...

    300Tdi overheating

Good evening, just looking for a bit of advice on my Disco 300tdi. It started overheating the other day with the gauge going into the red when I first noticed it. The car was running perfect. There is no loss of coolant but there is small air bubbles in the expansion tank when the engine is...

    Classic 3.9 LPG keeps flooding

Good morning, I have a 1993 Classic with the 3.9 which has a single point LPG system fitted. It was really heavy on fuel, single figures to the gallon on petrol and LPG, so bad I was hardly using which was a shame as it actually ran smooth and a cracking vehicle. A couple of weeks ago I...

    300tdi auto kickdown cable stuck

jamesmartin, job done and the mistake I made is so basic that I am embarrassed to admit to it but spending ages studying the valve body I noticed............the fork/lever for the selector. I hadn't connected it to the selector!!! Learning exercise for me... Thanks.

    300tdi auto kickdown cable stuck

Hi James, if you are available for further advice.... I have the valve body ready to go back on and the valve which sits against the selector cam, I assume it does not sit against the kickdown "wheel" at all. It's just that when I sit the valve body and try to position it against the selector...

    300tdi auto kickdown cable stuck

Thanks again James...... Will disassemble again and take more care refitting the block. To be honest I never studied the "top" of the valve body, I just refitted. I suppose when I take it off and study it, I am sure it will be clear.... Tomorrow me thinks!!!!!!

    300tdi auto kickdown cable stuck

That's the job done and enjoyed it. All made easier with all the advice. All I have to do is crimp the cable and test drive...... Last question, to crimp the cable, do I just "squeeze" the wee metal lump on the cable? I just don't want to do something wrong at this stage!!! Ta....

    300tdi auto kickdown cable stuck

Thanks yet again and that's a relief.........job will have to wait, the wrong cable has obviously been supplied as no matter how I route it it is still nearly 6 inches too short. Wednesdays job if the new cable arrives...... Enjoying the job although patience being tested just occasionally...

    300tdi auto kickdown cable stuck

"jamesmartin" are you out there?!!!! I started the job tonight and although a bit fiddly and testing my patience all seemed to be going ok until the "cam" slipped on me while trying to wedge it. It is now fully rewound and just wondered how much of a disaster is this. What can I do to get the...
